What kind of Pokémon is this? The legendary Pokémon Rayquaza is already a powerful attacker in Pokémon GO, its Mega form takes it to another level and is currently probably the best attacker in the game.
To obtain it, you must perform Mega Evolution on Rayquaza. However, you need Mega Energy and the item “Meteorite” for this, as it learns the move “Dragon Ascent,” which is crucial for the evolution. Mega-Rayquaza will then be available for a few hours before it reverts.
So far, the monster has only appeared during the GO Fest 2023; now it celebrates its return with its own event. But: Getting it won’t be easy.
Rayquaza returns to top raids – Here’s how to get the Meteorite and Mega Energy
When is the event with Mega-Rayquaza? On Saturday, June 29, 2024, Mega-Rayquaza will appear in top raids – at four different times.
- At 12:00 PM
- At 1:00 PM
- At 5:00 PM
- At 6:00 PM
These top raids are likely the only way to obtain the required Mega Energy during the event by defeating the raid boss.
What are top raids? That’s the catch: Top raids appear in limited quantities and can only be challenged on-site. You cannot participate with remote raid passes; you must go to the gym.
Additionally, the top raids take place with significantly increased difficulty. Accordingly, you will need more trainers to defeat it.
And if it’s like the usual Mega raids, where you get more energy the faster you defeat the raid, you should try to gather as many trainers as possible.

How do I get the Meteorite? During the event, a free, limited research task will be available that will grant you the item. Although no specific timeframe has been given yet, since it is a limited research task, it is clear that it cannot be solved indefinitely. It is likely that it will only be available on June 29. Therefore, you should mark this date on your calendar if you want to have Mega-Rayquaza.
Overall, the return of Mega-Rayquaza is an opportunity for everyone who missed out on securing the powerful attacker last year.
