How to evolve Mega Pokémon?
What kind of evolutions are these? As you already know from the main game, Mega Evolutions are temporary effects. They last only for a certain period. In Pokémon GO, you need Mega Energy to evolve Mega Pokémon.
Once you have evolved them, they will remain in Mega form as long as they have energy.
Only one of your Pokémon can be in Mega form at the same time.
Mega Energy can be thought of like the candy in Pokémon GO. Each species has its own candy, so does the Mega Energy.
Once you have given a Pokémon the Mega Evolution, later evolving it into its Mega form will be cheaper.
Where to get Mega Energy? You can obtain Mega Energy from Mega Raids. If you battle a Mega Blastoise, you will only receive energy for that species.
Dataminers found out that there will be field research tasks that will reward you with Mega Energy.
What you still need to know about Mega Evolutions
Here are some important informations:
- Mega Pokémon increase the attack power of all other attacking Pokémon in raids (this allows you to complete harder raids with fewer people)
- Pokémon of the same type as the Mega Pokémon receive an even stronger attack bonus
- You can use Mega Pokémon as your buddy
- Mega Pokémon cannot be used as gym defenders
- You can battle with Mega Pokémon against friends in trainer battles, but not in the PvP league
- Shadow Pokémon are not available for Mega Evolution
- In the Pokédex, there is a separate entry for Mega Pokémon
- Pokémon that you catch in Mega Raids will be in their normal form in your bag
