In Pokémon GO the Moon New Year event starts today, January 19. We will show you all the content, Shinies, and bonuses for the event.
When does the Moon New Year event take place? The Moon New Year starts in Pokémon GO on January 19, 2023, at 10:00 AM local time. It will run until January 23 at 8:00 PM.
So it runs for just under a week. During this time, you will have the opportunity to take advantage of the bonuses of the event.
What kind of event is this? For the Moon New Year, the color “Red” stands out in Pokémon GO, resulting in some Fire Pokémon appearing in the spawns. For instance, Flampion serves as the mascot of this year’s event.
At the same time, you will also find the Pokémon Scoppel and Haspiror among the spawns – fitting for the “Year of the Rabbit” 2023. Additionally, the theme of “Luck” plays a significant role.

Lucky Pokémon and Shiny-Flampion – All Information about the Moon New Year in Pokémon GO
These bonuses are included in the event: Among other things, you will have increased chances of lucky Pokémon during the event.
- The chance of lucky Pokémon through trading is increased
- You also have an increased chance of becoming lucky friends – which in turn leads to a lucky trade
Furthermore, the following bonuses come into play:
- Double Stardust when opening gifts.
- An additional special trade – so a maximum of two per day.
- Increased chance for Shiny-Flampion.
- New field research for the event.
- New avatar items and stickers in the shop.
Additionally, a limited-time research will be introduced.

What kind of research is this? In the research, you will have various paths to choose from. You can select one of three paths and their corresponding bonuses:
- Hatching eggs
- Using the Daily Adventure Incense
- Collecting Stardust
