The big event for Lunar New Year 2020 was announced in Pokémon GO! New Pokémon Darumaka and Picochilla will appear. In addition, the limited research will return.
When does the event start? It begins on January 24 at 10 PM. The event lasts for 10 days and ends on February 3 at 10 PM.
As a bonus, red Pokémon are waiting for you along with many bonuses. The highlight should be the limited researches featuring Picochilla.

Flampion, Gyarados and Lucky Pokémon
What bonuses are there? The list of event bonuses is long. The bonuses mainly revolve around red Pokémon. But there are also bonuses related to your friends and trading:
- Red Pokémon, such as Vulpix, Charmeleon, Voltorb, Paras, Roselia, Magmar, Magikarp, Flareon, Slugma, Wurmple, Krabby, Zangoose, and Foongus will appear more frequently in the wild
- Gyarados also appears more frequently in the wild and can even be encountered as Shiny
- The new Pokémon Flampion hatches from 7-km eggs, and you’ll also find Pokémon like Foongus and Dunsparce there
- Special candies can be found in gifts from friends
- The chance of becoming Lucky Friends is increased
- The chance of encountering Lucky Pokémon is increased
What about new Shinies? No new Shinies have been announced so far. However, the list of spawns is long and many Pokémon may not yet be Shiny.
It is quite conceivable that Niantic will introduce a new Shiny in the game.

You should take advantage of this bonus: Special candies from gifts are an excellent event bonus. You should make the most of this bonus. Try to open the maximum number of gifts each day.

Limited Research with Shiny Picochilla
What kind of event is this? The limited researches were last held in March 2019. This event revolves around special field researches that you can obtain from PokéStops. As a reward, you’ll always find Picochilla waiting for you in this case.
When will the limited researches run? On February 2, a Sunday, the event will take place. From 2 PM to 5 PM local time, you can go hunting for Picochilla for 3 hours.
What bonuses are there for the event? In addition to Picochilla, there are numerous other bonuses that round out the limited researches. For example:
- In field researches, you will find Picochilla, which can also be encountered as Shiny
- In the wild, rodent Pokémon such as Rattata, Raticate, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Bidoof, Marill, Zigzagoon, Plusle, Minun, and Bidoof will appear
- Picochilla will be found in 5-km eggs, which you can also continue to hatch after the event
