A new update is coming for Pokémon GO, currently rolling out in various regions. The update is version 0.135.0.
New loading screen: Niantic regularly replaces the loading screen for Pokémon GO with new updates. Often, it contains hints announcing upcoming events or changes. The loading screen of 0.135.0 features the Pokémon Smeargle, Pantimos, and more.
What is special about the loading screen? Players have been waiting for about 2 years for Smeargle to be released. In recent weeks, Niantic has posted messages on social media indicating that a release of the color Pokémon may be imminent. The Twitter account was “painted” in green. The green color that Smeargle has at the tip of its tail.
On the loading screen, you can also see Pantimos. It appears that Pantimos and Smeargle are “photobombing” and drawing the attention from the trainer.
What is photobombing? This term refers to a situation where a person voluntarily or involuntarily enters the focus of a photo, thereby drawing attention to themselves.
Problems with update 0.135.0: Players who have already downloaded the APK or had the update from the Google Store report serious bugs with the update. After installation, the game cannot be started. So it’s better to wait with the installation until these issues are resolved.
How players are speculating now
The new loading image gives fans of Pokémon GO many reasons to speculate. Primarily, they are excited about the depiction of Smeargle.
When could Smeargle be released? It is believed that Smeargle will be released alongside the new AR Snap feature . Or at least is related to it. The function is supposed to be included in the latest update. When it will be activated is unclear.
In a data mining, trainers already found a medal for “Photobomb”. It is now suspected that Smeargle may appear in the new photo mode.
Trainer Milla4Prez66 writes: “There are reports of a photobomb medal or something. I think you get random encounters [with Smeargle] when you use the photo mode. Smeargle might be exclusive to this, so that people use the feature. I think Kecleon would make sense for this too.”
What is Pantimos doing there? Trainers wonder if Pantimos in the photo is also photobombing. Would it lose its status as a regional Pokémon?
Trainer dechtu writes: “With Pantimos in this picture and Pantimimi in the promo images at the beginning of the month… could this be a sign that Pantimos is losing its status as a regional Pokémon and becoming a photobomb Pokémon?”
Many players share the concern that Pantimos might lose its status.
It is unclear what Niantic plans with these Pokémon. The new loading screen and the discovered medal suggest that AR Snapshot may integrate some sort of photobomb. Whether this will bring Smeargle into the game is unclear. However, there is now a lot of evidence pointing to it.
