Pokémon GO is hosting the big live event “A Colossal Discovery” this Saturday. However, it costs 8.99€. We asked you if you would participate, but many have declined.
What kind of live event is this? “A Colossal Discovery” is the first global live event that also costs money. You have to complete a special research task that will lead you to encounter Regigigas at the end.
In addition to the legendary Pokémon, you will also receive additional bonuses such as the Einall Stone, but the factor of money is a topic of conversation for many trainers. Thus, many players will likely stay away from the event.

On October 29, we asked you if you want to participate in the live event. You could choose between “Yes” and “No.”
This is what the survey says: A total of 4220 people voted, and the result is clear. 70% (2944) of you will not be participating. This means that only a significant minority (1276) will actually invest the 8.99€.

Why do players participate? Reasons for participation mainly include that you don’t really lose anything. The bonuses you receive from purchasing the ticket are actually more expensive than the ticket itself.
So writes Tablekiller in our comments: “I am in. I will be hunting Shiny-Regi anyway that day, so I’d love to have 10 additional Raid Passes. Also, EX-Raids during the week are always at such special times that a working person cannot attend, so I’m glad to have one for sure. The rest is also nice to have, and I am very excited about the gameplay experience of the quest line with my community, as many of my group have already purchased the ticket.”
6MOH9 says: “This is definitely a very worthwhile event. My community friends and I have already purchased the passes for this coming Saturday with great anticipation. We love Community Days and Special Events every time.”
Why are players not participating? The main criticism is that this is surely just the beginning. Many trainers believe that more will come soon and that the tickets will only get more expensive.
Denise writes: “I deleted the app and account after the announcement. The game is already a huge cash grab, now hiding quests behind a paywall was too much for me.”
On Facebook, Olaf B. writes: “It would be nice if nobody buys it; otherwise, Niantic will introduce this more frequently. Of course, with increasing prices.
It’s frankly pathetic for Niantic, who is already making millions off the game.”
