What happens after level 40? This is still not entirely clear. Since the release of Pokémon GO, players have been able to reach a maximum of level 40 in the game. This is done by earning experience points through raids, Pokémon catches, friendships, or special research.
Update from November 18 at 3:00 PM: Niantic has now officially confirmed the new max level of 50 in Pokémon GO. This will be introduced with the biggest update Pokémon GO has ever seen.
We only know from official sources how things will proceed, but without specific details. Players believe that the next max level will be 50. What we know so far is:
- In July 2019, Niantic revealed that they were considering increasing the level and wanted to explore new ways to level up in Pokémon GO.
- A leak from dataminers showed possible level-up rewards up to level 50 in April 2020.
- In June 2020, Niantic confirmed that experience points will still be associated with leveling up in Pokémon GO – they kept this very discreet.
- In July 2020, Niantic provided more details and explained that leveling after level 40 feels different than it did up to level 40 – it was already apparent that they were still working on new methods.
With the recent datamining on October 29, 2020, dataminers show what Niantic might have planned. They talk about special missions that trainers should complete to level up.
Special Missions for Level-Ups in Pokémon GO?
This is new: On reddit, the PokeMiners show their latest datamining results. In the past, this group has often correctly predicted content that Niantic announced days or even months later. There is a trust within the community towards the dataminers, which is why this finding is so important for the players.
They wrote in their latest finding: “New Level-Up” and explained that a lot of new code has been added to the game for a new leveling system.
There will also be a new animation that will take place in the game as soon as you reach a new level with your trainer.
Additionally, there is now a new task (quest) in the code, the level-up quest. The dataminers write: “It seems you will receive your level-ups in the future by completing special research missions.”
