Pokémon GO hasn’t had such high daily revenue in a long time. The legendary Pokémon motivate trainers to buy PokéCoins.
Since its release in summer 2016, Pokémon GO has attracted many players and lured them into the world of the little monsters. Although the game is free-to-play, it has an in-game shop where trainers can purchase Poké Balls and other helpful items.
Last weekend, the shop experienced a significant revenue surge after legendary Pokémon appeared in the game.
Record Revenue in July – Over 5 Million Dollars
On July 23, Pokémon GO reached a new record for the highest revenue in a single day. According to data from SensorTower, over 5 million dollars were earned on that day.
Coincidence? Probably not, because since July 23, the legendary Pokémon Lugia and Articuno have been found in the world of Pokémon GO. These special monsters have brought many players back to the app and into the in-game shop. On that day, the game reached daily revenue of about 5.8 million dollars.
Players had to wait a long time for their legendary Pokémon, which can now finally be found in the game. However, they will not be around forever, as Articuno will not be available in the game starting Monday. How long the ice bird will be absent is currently unknown. On this timeline, you can see when you can catch the individual legendary Pokémon Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in the game.
Similarly high revenues were observed on October 28, 2016. The first Pokémon GO event (Halloween) was active and generated 5.7 million dollars in strong revenues.
- On December 31, the New Year event took place and brought special anniversary boxes to the shop. On that day, 5.5 million dollars were earned.
- The February 21 ranks fourth on SensorTower’s list. On that day, a balance update introduced changes in the arenas. 5.0 million dollars were earned on February 21.
- On April 14, Pokémon GO earned 4.2 million dollars. At that time, the Easter event was active and brought lucky eggs with a 50% discount to the shop.
Big Events = Big Revenue?
It’s not uncommon for mobile games to make a lot of revenue during big events. During events, there are often special offers in in-game shops that players are happy to spend money on.
When an event starts in Pokémon or a major balance update is made, it often shows a significant impact on revenue.
Special events are also coming to Europe – The Safari Zones are enticing with regional Pokémon
