Three major events await us this summer in Pokémon GO. Legendary Pokémon, battles between players and more significance in team selection.
The summer of 2017 is set to be a big spectacle in Pokémon GO and could bring many players back into augmented reality. Whether there will be as much hype around the game as last summer remains to be seen. Now we have the official confirmation from Niantic that three major features await us in Pokémon GO this summer.
Legendary Pokémon, greater importance of team selection in the game and battles between trainers are on the agenda for PokéSummer 2017.
Pokémon GO Summer 2017 – What is planned?
In an interview with one of the largest Brazilian news networks “Globo”, Niantic revealed detailed plans for the summer. Mathieu de Fayet spoke about three major events that await us this summer. When asked how to continue to engage players in Pokémon GO, de Fayet responded:
“Due to the great success, we had to postpone some things. Now we are working on announcing new updates for the summer. This includes giving more significance to team selection, the announcement of legendary Pokémon, as well as battles between players. From Ingress, we learned that a game can sustain itself when social interactions between trainers are created. We are working on that!”
Arena Rework or PvP? What’s coming in Summer 2017?
The statements from Mathieu de Fayet come shortly after Niantic announced that the summer will be legendary. So far, these statements align well and likely confirm that legendary Pokémon will be implemented in the game in summer 2017. Which monsters are involved remains unclear for now.
Furthermore, Fayet spoke of “battles between players”. Many trainers already conclude that these must be PvP battles. However, consider that an arena overhaul and more cooperative gameplay are planned. What function is meant by “battles between players” is not entirely clear from the quote of the interview and leaves much room for speculation.
It will also be interesting to see how Niantic wants to increase the value of teams. What do you believe the developers are planning for the summer?
