Data miners indicate that Niantic is currently working on the Mega Evolutions in Pokémon GO. There is a change that many of you might appreciate. It is a major wish of the community.
What’s going on with the Mega Pokémon? When this new feature was introduced, many trainers in Pokémon GO were dissatisfied. Mega Evolutions temporarily make a Pokémon stronger for battles, but
- it initially cost a lot of energy
- the energy had to be painstakingly collected
- the Mega Evolutions are only temporary – after the time runs out, they revert to “normal” Pokémon
Trainers found some key issues here. Even big YouTubers like Spieletrend or TrainerTips mentioned some ideas to improve the Mega Evolutions.
A wish that was often expressed in the community was for “permanent Mega Pokémon”. These should remain in this form after the Mega Evolution and not expire after a certain time. And now there is new information on this.
Data miners find hints about permanent Mega Evolutions
This is shown by a leak: On reddit, the data miners of Pokeminers display their findings. They regularly search through the game’s code for changes. This allows them to find out what Niantic is currently working on and what might be activated in the game soon.
However, keep in mind that these data mining findings are not guaranteed changes that will actually be activated in the game. It may be that Niantic is just experimenting and might delete it soon or that the findings could be integrated into the game in a completely different way than expected.
Initially, the data miners show code related to locking temporary Mega Evolutions.
.get_TempEvolutionIsLocked .set_TempEvolutionIsLocked .get_LockedTempEvolution .set_LockedTempEvolution TemporaryEvolutionFinishMs TempEvolutionIsLockedLockedTempEvolutionIt is suspected that this code could be related to the following line.
MakeTempEvoPermanentMake Temp Evo Permanent, meaning make a temporary Mega Evolution permanent. How this will be implemented and whether the interpretation is indeed correct will be revealed in the coming days or weeks when Niantic announces something in this direction.
What could this mean?
The most obvious assumption is that Niantic is changing the function of the Megas so that they remain permanent. A feature that could make many players happy.
What do players say about this?
- “Sounds promising that they added something to make Megas permanent,” writes 47Dud3_ on reddit
- “[…] I’m not sure if it’s the right way to handle the Megas. It would make more sense if they simply set the evolution costs to 0 after the first Mega Evolution. It should then last 4 hours and can only be used once every 24 hours […]” says Lambsauce914 on reddit
Other players speculate that one Mega Evolution per species could be made permanent. This would help keep track of them.
