In Japan, there is a “Pokémon GO” event until November 23, where trainers can catch a lot of Lapras.
A current Pokémon GO event in Japan attracts many trainers to the Tohoku Region. During this event, more Lapras than usual will appear along the coasts of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures. These areas suffered significant damage from the tsunami in 2011. This Pokémon event aims to encourage trainers to visit these places – and catch many Lapras while doing so.
Players want the event worldwide
The official Pokémon GO Japan Twitter account announced that from November 11 to November 23, many Lapras can be caught along the coasts of Miyagi, Fukushima, and Iwate. While there has been a lot of positive feedback on this event, some players find it unfair.
On Reddit, it says: “Niantic, give me a good argument why this event is not global.” Another user calls for a Snorlax event for America after Trump was elected president.
The trainers who are in the mentioned regions are making the most of the event. A screenshot shows the Lapras spawn rate one can get in these areas:
Now one might think that all trainers in Japan have a great advantage, as they only have to “drive briefly to these areas”. However, these regions are quite remote. Reddit user Vccowan writes that the trip from Tokyo to these regions would cost a little over $100.
The last global events of Pokémon GO were the Halloween event and the subsequent Bonus event, with more daily bonuses.
What do you think: Should such events take place worldwide, or is the current approach the right one?
