This event is about: There hasn’t been a Raid Day in Pokémon GO for a long time. In this event, a special Pokémon will appear in arenas for exactly 3 hours.
In this case, everything revolves around Lapras. The Level 4 Raid can appear in its shiny form and learn two special moves.
Raid Day with Lapras in May – All Info and Bonuses
When: On Saturday, May 25, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM German time
Pokémon of the Day: Lapras
Exclusive Move: Icy Wind and Ice Beam
Bonus: Double Raid Experience Points
Bonus: Double Raid Stardust
Bonus: 5 free Raid Passes are available
This is how the Raid Day will proceed: At exactly 11 AM, Lapras raids will be available everywhere. The only exception is EX Raid arenas, which have already distributed invites for the upcoming time.
The Lapras raids will last for 3 hours everywhere. At 2 PM, the fun will be over and the Lapras raids will disappear. The normal raid bosses will take over the arenas again.
Shiny Lapras for Raid Day
Are there Shiny Lapras? Niantic has already confirmed that you can encounter Shiny Lapras during the Raid Day. The Shiny has been in the game since the Safari Zone in Singapore, but very few players will have had the chance to catch a Shiny Lapras, as it has been incredibly rare up until now.
What is the chance of getting Shiny Lapras? In the upcoming event, you will have the best chance of encountering Lapras. While there are no exact numbers yet, it is assumed that the rate is about 1 in 20. That’s how it was during the Raid Day with Gengar.
The Bonuses for Lapras Day
What bonuses are there? During the Raid Day, there will also be an event that provides some bonuses for raids. Here are the extras:
- Double Experience Points during raids
- Double Stardust during raids
If you plan to do many raids consecutively, the bonuses are particularly worthwhile. For example, if you use a Lucky Egg, you can easily earn 400,000 XP during the three hours.
Lapras with the Exclusive Moves – Is it worth it?
Which moves are we talking about? During the three hours, Lapras will learn the moves Icy Wind and Ice Beam. They are only available if you catch Lapras in the raid during that time.
How strong are the moves? Both moves enhance Lapras. Especially in PvP, this Pokémon becomes quite useful. In arenas and raids, however, Lapras remains rather weak. There is too much competition among ice attackers, where Lapras simply cannot prevail.
This is how you can do many raids within 3 hours
Keep these tips in mind: If you live in a place with enough arenas, you can easily do around 30 raids during that time.
- Plan your route in advance
- Look for many arenas in a row along the route. Avoid passing the same arena multiple times
- Fight the raid boss while moving
- Once you’ve started the battle, you can walk as far from the arena as you want. Take advantage of this and walk towards the next arena already. This can save you a lot of time
- Skip great throws
- Great throws take time. If you don’t have a Lapras with good IV in front of you, just use a golden Razz Berry and throw it quickly. This way, you can catch the Pokémon faster or get rid of the balls more efficiently
- Stick to small groups
- More players also mean more problems during raids. Keep your groups small. This way, you’ll be much more effective and make faster progress
The best counters against Lapras
What is Lapras weak against? This Pokémon has weaknesses against the types Fighting, Rock, Electric, and Grass. So, you have a wide array of good counters available.
The best counters against Lapras are the following Pokémon:
- Raikou with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
- Machamp with Counter and Dynamic Punch
- Magnezone with Spark and Wild Charge
- Electivire with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
- Hariyama with Counter and Dynamic Punch
- Roserade with Razor Leaf and Grass Knot
How many people do you need for Lapras? This Pokémon can be defeated with just two players. However, for a faster defeat, around 4-5 players should be present.
Lapras with Good IV – What to Look For
What CP should Lapras have in the raid? To have a Lapras with 100% IV, it must have 1509 CP. With weather bonus, it can even reach 1886 CP in the raid. However, it needs to be raining or snowing.
The closer your Lapras is to these CP, the better its IV will be. So, anything around 1500 CP is worth catching.
Use these items on Lapras Day
- Lucky Egg – 6 pieces
- It’s best to have a Lucky Egg running for the full 3 hours. The doubled XP is especially noticeable during raids.
- Star Piece – 6 pieces
- Since there is also double Stardust from the raids, a Star Piece is worthwhile as well. This way, you’ll get 3000 Stardust per raid. If you manage to do 20 raids during this time, you’ll end up with 60,000 Stardust. It’s definitely worth it.
- GO Plus
- During the event, you want to focus on the raids, making a GO Plus very important as it catches Pokémon for you at the press of a button.
