On the weekend of July 17 and 18, 2021, the GO Fest 2021 took place in Pokémon GO. The second event day revolved around numerous raids featuring legendary monsters. The mysterious Pokémon Hoopa was responsible for this, although it could not be caught. We show you the reactions and speculations of the community.
What happened? Last weekend, the GO Fest 2021 was held for trainers of Pokémon GO Here. Players had the opportunity to encounter a variety of different and rare monsters. Additionally, the focus of the second event day was on legendary raids.
On that day, trainers had the chance to battle numerous legendary monsters and catch them. The mysterious Pokémon Hoopa was behind it. The game even displayed a night sky during the day, featuring circles. The YouTube video from “M S Gaming BD” shows you what it looked like:
Niantic also changed the loading screen after the first event day, incorporating Hoopa as seen in the image. Ultimately, Professor Willow also stated in the texts for the special research on Sunday that it was about Hoopa. He even hinted that players should prepare for an encounter with this mysterious monster. However, trainers were unable to catch Hoopa that day.
Hoopa is a mysterious Pokémon from the 6th generation. It is of the Psychic and Ghost type. Like Meloetta, Hoopa is also a shape-shifting Pokémon, allowing it to assume a bounded or unleashed form. With the help of its rings, it can create a space curvature, thus transporting things from one place to another.
How the Community reacts to Hoopa
Even before the GO Fest, when dataminers found information about Hoopa in the game code, many trainers expressed their hope for an encounter with Hoopa on Sunday. Twitter user Tony_Daddi wrote on July 17 with great anticipation: “Pokémon GO has slightly updated its start screen; we will probably finally get Hoopa in the game tomorrow!” (via twitter.com)
Trainer FleeceKing also tweeted: “I just woke up and saw this random ring in the sky, and the map looked completely different. Could this be a sign that Hoopa comes to Pokémon GO sooner than we thought?” (via twitter.com)
Although Niantic confirmed to “GoStadium” on Twitter that this Pokémon would not be catchable during the GO Fest, some players still hoped for a sudden surprise from Pokémon GO (via twitter.com).
Unfortunately, these trainers were disappointed by Pokémon GO. There was no encounter with Hoopa, and the conclusion of the special research felt incomplete on the second event day. Professor Willow briefly touched on the Hoopa theme but did not pursue it to its conclusion.
Will Hoopa appear in the 3rd Hyperbonus?
Meanwhile, some trainers speculate on reddit about a possible introduction of Hoopa in the game. Some reddit users, such as Amiibofan101, suspect that this mysterious monster will be catchable during the 3rd Hyperbonus in Pokémon GO (via reddit.com).
The topic of the 3rd Hyperbonus has so far been kept completely secret by Niantic. As the first bonus, starting on July 23, deals with the theme of time, and the second one follows with the theme of space, Hoopa, with its space curvature, could fit well in there.

Will Hoopa be catchable in EX Raids?
Other trainers, like the reddit user Kind_Kick7197, hope instead for the return of EX Raids and, in this contexts, for the introduction of Hoopa in the game (via reddit.com). That would also be a possibility, as other mysterious monsters have previously been catchable in EX Raids.
Furthermore, the return of EX Raids has been discussed for some time. These are exclusive raid battles to which certain trainers have received an invitation from Niantic. However, these could not take place anymore due to Corona.
