The Pokémon GO Fest 2021 is just around the corner! Now, dataminers have found new text entries related to the event that hint at a mysterious Pokémon.
What is it about? In Pokémon GO, a new update has just gone live, which the dataminers known as “PokeMiners” have taken a closer look at.
In the Pokémon GO subreddit, they are sharing what they have discovered. Among other things, the update apparently includes text for a new special research that could become active for the GO Fest 2021 (via reddit).
However, this is not the research involving Meloetta on Saturday, but another one that is likely to play a role on Sunday.

What do the texts say about the new special research?
What the dataminers found: According to datamined texts in the research, Professor Willow reports on “strange rings” that appear in the sky. From these rings, legendary Pokémon would break free as if by ghostly hands – which would provide an in-game explanation for the many legendary raid bosses for the second day of the GO Fest.
During the research, Willow is supposed to find out that the mysterious Pokémon “Hoopa” is behind it. This is a Psychic and Ghost-type monster that has existed since the sixth generation. It also possesses a “unbound form” that transforms the Ghost-type into a Dark-type.
Hoopa is known for opening portals with the help of rings, through which it can travel and also move things or Pokémon.
What does this mean for the GO Fest? For now, it seems that Hoopa will be the story explanation for the events on Sunday. However, it appears that it won’t be catchable during the GO Fest: There is a hint in the research that “Hoopa is currently not in the vicinity,” and players are meant to spend the time preparing with raids.
Additionally, the Pokeminers point out that Niantic has confirmed to “GoStadium” on Twitter that Hoopa will not be catchable at the GO Fest (via Twitter).
What trainers suspect: While some trainers suspect that Hoopa will only be responsible for the raids over the weekend, others hope that it might still appear at the GO Fest.
A popular theory is that it could possibly play a role again for the hyper bonus. This is currently divided into the areas of “time”, “space”, and “???”. The last one certainly leaves room for a lot of speculation.
However, there have also been theories regarding another Pokémon concerning the hyper bonus.
