Dataminers have found a regional catch challenge in the code of Pokémon GO. Now there is hope that you will soon be able to catch more regional Pokémon in your area, even those that should not be there.
This is new: In the code of Pokémon GO, there are a few new texts that suggest changes. The “Regional Catch Challenge” particularly stands out. Trainers speculate that Niantic is planning to launch a new event with regional Pokémon.

Regional Event in Pokémon GO?
Where does the information come from? On reddit, user martycochrane from PokeMiners wrote the post with the updates (via reddit.com). The PokeMiners have often pointed out changes in the code that were later actually integrated into the game. This dataminer group is considered trustworthy.
This was found: In the code, there is mention of a “Regional Catch Challenge” that is also intended to provide you with rewards.

However, new rewards have been found in the code that may be related to the regional event.

What players suspect: In the comments, players express hope that the “Regional Catch Challenge” will provide opportunities to catch Pokémon from other regions.
“Giving us a chance to get regionals without having to travel/find someone who has traveled would be the best thing this game has ever added […],” writes Olli3popp (via reddit.com).
“It will be interesting to see this Regional Challenge. I wonder if they will introduce a regional event like they did for the regionals from Gen 1 but for Gen 2. Scyther and Kangaskhan are the only regional Pokémon that have Megas, AND Oricorio has a Galarian form. It would be interesting if they bring a regional event for Gen 2 and also include the Shinies […],” writes Flare_Blaze2 (via reddit.com)
User Maserati888 summarizes what the regional event will be for him in the best and worst case (via reddit.com):
- “Worst case: Catch all the regional Pokémon from your region”
- “Best/good case: Gives us a regional Pokémon that we do not yet have in the Pokédex. Or a new regional Shiny”
What else was found?
Clothing in Flareon style: The developers of Pokémon GO have already stated that with the release of Flareon, the new Eevee evolution, there will also be avatar clothing available in the shop. From the code, it is now known that it will likely be two headpieces, a hoodie, and shoes.
Raid logging: With this feature, you can, if you want, save data from your last raid and send it to Niantic. This could be used to locate issues.
Friends from contacts: This change will soon allow you to add friends from your phone contacts directly as friends in Pokémon GO.
In addition, there are a few smaller changes that will not have a major impact on your gaming experience.
