With the arrival of Mega-Gengar in the raids at Pokémon GO, a Mega-Pokémon has to leave. Niantic shows how it will continue with Mega Raids and Energies.
What’s new? The developers of Pokémon GO announced changes in the mobile game. The recently introduced Mega Raids will be changing soon. Mega-Venusaur, which has been there from the start, will leave the Mega Raids.
It essentially makes room for Mega-Gengar.

When does Mega-Venusaur disappear?
What is known: Niantic states that Mega-Venusaur will no longer be found as a Raid Boss in Mega Raids starting from October 24 at 03:00 AM German time. Mega-Gengar will then come into the raids.
Until that time, Venusaur will appear more often in Mega Raids. This gives you all a better chance to encounter this opponent.
Do you still need Energies? You can still receive Mega-Venusaur Energy through
- completing field research tasks
- and through an upcoming event in November.
Changes to Mega Evolutions in November
What is planned: Next month, in November 2020, Niantic wants to further improve the Mega Evolutions in Pokémon GO. At the beginning, the feature received a lot of criticism and was described as the “biggest paywall since launch“.
Since then, the developers have been trying to design the special evolutions to be appealing to trainers. In November, you can expect the following changes:
- Earn Mega Energies by walking with your buddy Pokémon if you previously performed a Mega Evolution on a Pokémon from your buddy’s evolution chain
- Earn additional Mega Candies if you have an active Mega Pokémon and catch a Pokémon of the same type as your Mega Pokémon. You will also receive extra candies if you catch a Raid Boss, regardless of its type
- Your friends list will show which trainers currently have a Mega Pokémon
