There are always new updates in Pokémon GO. Now one is being tested that should help you with the weekly challenges.
After initial issues, the weekly challenges in Pokémon GO were finally activated for all Trainers in December. You have one week to complete a challenge with up to 3 other Trainers and earn friendship points, stardust, and experience points.
Now Trainers are reporting on Reddit that they have received a change in the challenges. And this could be quite convenient for some Trainers.
New Trainers, New Friends
What kind of change is this? While you or your friends had to invite Trainers into a group for weekly challenges, some Trainers on Reddit are now reporting a change.
They now have the option to choose for Pokémon GO to create a group for them – with Trainers who are not yet on their friends list.
What this looks like can be seen in this post on Reddit:
What are the advantages? If you have previously had trouble finding enough players for the weekly challenges, then this change could help you.
Additionally, you now have the opportunity to gain new friends right in the game by adding them after a weekly challenge. By increasing your friendship level, you can not only earn additional experience points in the long term but also gain more friends with whom you can perform the new remote trades.
When will the change be available for all Trainers? It is not yet known whether and when this change will be activated for all Trainers worldwide. However, it is common for new features in the game to first be tested with a portion of Trainers and then made available to all Trainers.
Not only the weekly challenges await you in January in the game. There are again plenty of events, spotlight hours, and more content for you. If you want to know what these are and when they take place, then feel free to check our overview with all events in January 2026 in Pokémon GO.
