Knapfel was announced for Pokémon GO. And that is quite a crazy monster even in the world of Pokémon when you look at the Pokédex.
When will Knapfel appear in Pokémon GO? According to a press email, Knapfel will first appear at the event “Sweet Discoveries” in the game. This will take place from April 24 to April 29.
It is still unclear how it will appear – whether in the wild, in raids, research, eggs, or in other ways. But one thing is clear: It will need not only candies but also “special items” to evolve Knapfel.
As of now, the little Pokémon can evolve into Drapfel or Schlapfel. However, Knapfel theoretically has more variations on offer – and is generally a crazy monster. We introduce it to you here.
Knapfel and its Evolutions – The Apple Dragons
In the following graphic, you first see Knapfel at the top and then its evolutions Drapfel and Schlapfel. Knapfel is of the Dragon and Plant type, as are its evolutions.
In the lower part of the graphic, you can also see Sirapfel – another evolution of Knapfel, which can also reach another form: Hydrapfel. However, as of now, Sirapfel and Hydrapfel will not appear in Pokémon GO yet.
In the main games, the evolution was determined by what kind of apple was given to Knapfel. The sour apple turned it into Drapfel, while the sweet apple turned it into Schlapfel. The juicy apple can since the ninth generation also transform it into Sirapfel, which can then evolve into Hydrapfel.

What kind of Pokémon are they? That is somewhat unclear. The Pokémon seems to be half apple, half dragon, but in its first form, it is actually just a small creature that has hidden itself in an apple. This is stated in Pokédex entries about Knapfel, which emphasize that it protects itself from enemies by hiding in the apple and starts to eat it to grow. Fortunately, it did not make it into the ranking of the tastiest Pokémon.
During the evolution into Drapfel, however, the skin becomes part of the body. Then it has shell wings and can also spit acid. Schlapfel, on the other hand, mutates more into the apple pie dragon, which attracts bug Pokémon with its smell that it can eat. Both evolutions also have a huge Gigantamax form.
So is it half dragon, half apple? Or a dragon in an apple? No matter, because it gets really adventurous with the new forms Sirapfel and Hydrapfel. It is said:
- Sirapfel consists of two beings, “Kopfel and Schwanzel,” that have met in an apple. From both, either the head or the tail hangs out of the apple.
- And Hydrapfel is supposed to consist of a group of seven “Schlangeln” that live in the apple, with the Schlangel in the middle being the leader.
Let’s make it simple: Knapfel and its evolutions are a combination of apple-dragon-snake. Done. In any case, it will appear in Pokémon GO very soon and can then be caught in one way or another.
