In Pokémon GO you can now more easily find XL candies for your monsters and for legendary Pokémon. We will show you what has changed and where you can take advantage of it.
What has changed? Niantic announced at the end of February 2021 that the developers are modifying how XL candies are earned. Since the night of March 12, the changes have been active, and you can now earn XL candies quickly in new ways.
We will show you in this overview here on MeinMMO where you can easily find the candies and how many there are. The change is particularly noticeable with legendary Pokémon.
Here you are guaranteed to find XL candies
Use these opportunities: Niantic has already announced where changes are being made.
- When trading Pokémon, there is a chance to receive an XL candy for the traded Pokémon. The greater the distance between the catch locations, the higher the chance.
- There is now a chance for XL candies when walking with your buddy.
- For catching legendary, mysterious, or evolved Pokémon, you are now guaranteed XL candies.
Trainers of Pokémon GO have already been researching diligently since the changes and compiled their findings. The following changes result:
- When walking with the buddy, a message will eventually appear that an XL candy has been earned
- Milestones for trades have not yet been identified to determine guaranteed XL candies
- Legendary and mysterious Pokémon guarantee at least 3 XL candies per catch
From level 1 to 40, you will continue to use Stardust and regular candies for leveling up your Pokémon. After level 40, you will need to switch to Stardust and XL candies.
However, you do not earn guaranteed XL candies when catching regular Pokémon, but only have a chance to do so. This makes this resource so rare.
Where you can get XL candies in Pokémon GO is explained here.
Why is this change important?
This is particularly: It has been a great wish for trainers to receive more XL candies for catching legendary Pokémon. These especially strong Pokémon can only be caught in raids or are rarely obtained through research, the PvP league, or opponents like Giovanni. Because they are so rare, it takes a long time to earn enough XL candies to maximize their CP. This change, therefore, comes at the right time for trainers.
Now it is much easier for you to level up your legendary Pokémon to the highest level. This makes you stronger as attackers in raids and allows you to better face the many new opponents that will be released in the coming weeks and months.
Tip: Right now, there are at least 3 XL candies for each captured Meltan, with a maximum of 6. Whether this is intended by Niantic is still unclear. Trainers advise taking advantage of this quickly before Niantic changes this for Meltan again. Everyone can unlock Meltan boxes for free in Pokémon GO. This way, you can easily collect the XL candies you need for a level 50 Melmetal.
What do you think of the changes to XL candies in Pokémon GO? Do you think it’s good and are you already busy collecting, or do you wish for further changes in other areas?
