On October 5th at 10 AM, an event to celebrate Detective Pikachu Returns will start in Pokémon GO. During this event, there will be some bonuses and a new chance to get what is probably the rarest Shiny in the game.
What happens at the event? The game “Master Detective Pikachu Returns” will be released on Nintendo Switch, but it’s not just for Switch players to celebrate. There will also be a corresponding accompanying event in Pokémon GO where you can collect some bonuses. Among other things, one of the rarest Shinys: Pikachu with detective hat.
Why is it so rare? Pikachu with detective hat was only available in the game during the movie launch of “Detective Pikachu” in 2019. At that time, it was not possible to catch the Pokémon in shiny, this was only possible through a trick.
In short, you had to trigger the event spawn and then wait until the event was over before beginning the encounter with Pikachu. Then it would have a hat on and a theoretical chance of being shiny. So, it can be said that shiny Detective Pikachu was only available in the game for a few minutes.
Now you have the chance to catch the coveted Pikachu and even without a trick. During the event, you can catch Pikachu with detective hat in shiny, if you are lucky. Through evolution, you can also secure shiny Raichu with hat.

When does the event take place? The event starts on October 5th at 10 AM and runs until October 9th at 8 PM. During this time, you have the chance to catch the shiny Pikachu and take advantage of the other event bonuses.
Which Pokémon will appear more frequently? The following Pokémon will be found more often in the wild during the event:
- Pikachu with detective hat*
- Fukano
- Flegmon with hat*
- Alolan Kokowei*
- Karpador*
- Xatu
- Blubella
- Loturzel*
- Palimpalim*
- Bronzel*
- Piccolente
- Wommel
- Legios
Additionally, thematic field research will prepare the following Pokémon for you:
- Mogelbaum*
- Serpifeu*
- Bauz
Pokémon that we have marked with a * can be encountered in their shiny form with appropriate luck.
What challenges are there? During the event period, there will be a collector challenge. In this challenge, you will need to complete field research tasks. We currently don’t know exactly how this will look.
Additionally, there will be a limited-time research running in parallel. Here, too, you will need to complete field research tasks to unlock encounters with Pikachu.
What bonuses are there? Throughout the event, you will receive double XP for spinning Pokéstops. Additionally, you can find a Pikachu with a detective hat once a day if you take a snapshot of one of your Pokémon.
Apart from all of that, there is also a detective avatar pose in the shop, which will be available from the start of the event. However, it is only available for purchase and is not a reward that can be earned during the event.
