In Pokémon GO today starts the event “Illuminating Legends Y” with Yveltal. However, the legendary monster is not the only interesting thing about this big event.
When does the Yveltal event start? The event “Illuminating Legends Y” is divided into two parts. The first part starts on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 10:00 AM local time. The first section ends on Monday, May 24, 2021, at 8:00 PM local time.
During the first part, some bonuses will already come into play, mainly revolving around Dark-type monsters. We will take a closer look at the features here.
This is what the first part of the Yveltal event brings
What you can expect from the event: Starting from the event launch, you can encounter the legendary Pokémon Yveltal in 5-star raids. It is a Dark and Flying type monster from the sixth generation.

But Yveltal is just one of the features that await you. Team Rocket also plays an important part in the first event week.
This is Team Rocket’s role: Some Team GO Rocket Grunts are expected to come with a changed tactic starting from the event launch. This means: New Shadow monsters may await you in battle against Team Rocket, which you can then rescue.
Additionally, there will be a timed research task revolving around Team Rocket, which will bring you a meeting with Dark-type monsters like Galarian Zigzagoon. All tasks and rewards of the new research on Illuminating Legends Y can be found here.
Important: Until Sunday, May 23, 2021, an additional challenge surrounding Team GO Rocket is running, in which the entire trainer community aims to defeat 25 million Grunts.
If successful, Galarian Zigzagoon can also appear in its shiny variant. Furthermore, there will be triple catch XP and Galarian Zigzagoon raids for the remainder of the event. So, it is worthwhile to fight against the Rockets.

This is what’s important about Team Rocket: During the event, you can use Charged TMs to make your Shadow monsters forget the move “Frustration”. This allows you to exchange the mostly useless move for a strong attack.
This is worthwhile because Shadow monsters are generally stronger attackers than their normal forms, and “Frustration” cannot be forgotten easily outside of certain event periods. Therefore, you should take advantage of this time if you own some exciting Shadow monsters.
These spawns await you: Aside from Yveltal and Team Rocket, the event also brings some altered spawns. Primarily, these are Dark-type Pokémon that you can find more frequently in the wild.
Among the spawns are Houndoom and Carvanha, but additional Pokémon are expected to come along. Hunting these monsters may also be worthwhile if you want to evolve Pam-Pam – you will need Dark-type monsters for that. In addition, Pokémon from the last weeks like Parfi, Swablu, and Viscora will still be catchable.
What about Illuminating Legends Y Part 2?
This is how the event continues: The second part of the event will start on May 25, 2021, at 10:00 AM and will run until May 31, 2021, at 8:00 PM. A large part of this event section will revolve around the new Eevee evolution Feelinara. Trainers have already discovered an evolution trick for this.
Additionally, some old Eevee evolutions will be found in raids, and altered spawns are also expected. Furthermore, the 7-km eggs will include Pokémon like Eevee, Pii, Swablu, Togepi, Azurill, Parfi, and Swablu.
