In August 2020, a lot is happening in Pokémon GO. Events are lined up one after another. We provide you with an overview of Spotlight Hours, event weeks, Community Day, and other occurrences.
What is it about? The developers of Pokémon GO announced several events for August that you should note down. We show you all known events and how they affect you.
We keep this list up to date and will update it as soon as new events are announced by Niantic.
July 31 – August 7 – Dragon Week
What is happening? During the Dragon Week, Dragon-type Pokémon will spawn more frequently in the wild. Additionally, the contents of the eggs have been adjusted and the Raid bosses have been changed.
Trainers hope to catch rare Kaumalat and Kabuno during this event week. They can also come from eggs, but probably only extremely rarely.
August 4 – Spotlight Hour
What is happening? In this first Spotlight Hour in August, the Pokémon Seeper is in focus. You will also receive double the candies for catching Pokémon.
August 7 – August 14 – Enigma Week
What is happening? In this second Hyper Bonus Week, special Pokémon are in the spotlight. Among them, the mysterious Pygraulon and Deoxys. If you are lucky, you might encounter a shiny Deoxys or even a shiny Sterndu.
August 8 – Community Day
What is happening? On Saturday, August 8, the Community Day with Karpador takes place. This could be an interesting date for you, as Karpador has long been available as shiny in Pokémon GO and its evolution Garados is a popular shiny among trainers.
For about 1 €, there will be a special research available in the shop specifically for this Community Day. Learn more about the Community Day in August, the special move, and bonuses here.
August 10 – PvP League Change
What is happening? On this day, the battle league in Pokémon GO changes at 10:00 PM. The Hyper League and Premier Cup will be active. From August 10 at 10:00 PM to August 24 at 10:00 PM, these will be active and you can participate.
The Premier Cup has a CP limit of 2500. Pokémon with higher CP cannot participate.
August 11 – Spotlight Hour
What is happening? During the second Spotlight Hour in August, you will encounter more Zobiris. As a bonus, you will receive double the candies for sending Pokémon during the event period.
With a bit of luck, you might even encounter shiny Zobiris.
August 14 – August 21 – Einall Week
What is happening? The Einall Week is the third week of the Hyper Bonus. For a week, you will encounter Einall Pokémon in the game. Some of them even for the very first time. In Raid battles, Genesect appears and, hopefully, it will be shiny.
August 16 – Compensation Event
What is happening? On this day, Niantic intends to make up for the technical issues that occurred during GO Fest 2020. For three hours, habitats will be active again – but not for all trainers.
August 18 – Spotlight Hour
What is happening? The third Spotlight Hour in August focuses on Toxiped. Unfortunately, there is currently no shiny form in the game, which hopefully will change by the event. Otherwise, you can at least expect the bonus of double experience points for evolving Pokémon.
August 24 – PvP League Change
What is happening? On this day, the second league change in PvP takes place. From August 24 at 10:00 PM, the Master League and Premier Cup will be active. They will run until September 7 at 10:00 PM.
The Premier Cup has no CP limit – any Pokémon in your collection can participate.
August 25 – Spotlight Hour
What is happening? The last Spotlight Hour in August brings Kleinstein into focus. You will receive the bonus of double stardust for catching Pokémon. So save up some Poké Balls before this day.
If you are also actively fighting Team GO Rocket during this month, pay attention to the special Shadow Pokémon. Trainers warn in Pokémon GO: Do not redeem all Shadow Pokémon. If you have good fighters, it is worth keeping these “enchanted” in your roster.
