Pokémon GO is currently overwhelming players with events. Some are saying it’s becoming too much. They want changes or even fewer events.
What’s happening in Pokémon GO? A few days ago, Niantic announced a bunch of events that players can expect in March 2020. When Pokémon GO started in 2016, it kicked off with a Halloween event and then there was a quiet period for a few weeks.
In March 2020, there are hardly any days when nothing special is happening. Every weekend features an event, during the week there are regularly Spotlight Hours and Wonder Bonus Hours. In addition, there are new researches and mini-events. Oh, and of course the Community Day mustn’t be missed.
We asked the trainers what they think. Some clearly say: It’s becoming too much. Slow down a bit, Niantic.
“I would like fewer events”
This is the problem: Some players wish for fewer events from Niantic. A small overview for March 2020 in Pokémon GO looks like this:
- New research on Team Rocket – Giovanni has a new Shadow Pokémon
- New raid boss Thundurus in raids starting March 2
- The Team Rocket event starting March 6
- 4 raid weekends with a different legendary Pokémon in raids each time
- The Community Day on March 15
- A mysterious raid weekend on March 20
- The Psychic Spectacle starting March 27
- Every Tuesday a Spotlight Hour, every Thursday a Wonder Bonus Hour
After the announcement of the many March events, we asked our readers in our Facebook group what they think about it.
The question was: March 2020 is full of events in Pokémon GO. Are the events too much for you?
This is how you answered:

- 444 people say: Yes, I would like somewhat fewer events
- 179 people say: No, the number of events is just right
- 120 people say: No, Pokémon GO can never have enough events
- 11 people say: Yes, I would like many fewer events
These are your arguments for and against the events
Longer events: Patricia L. writes that she would like to see “real events” again that last for 2 weeks. In return, she would prefer fewer of the 3-day events.
Rebecca D. agrees:
A bit fewer events but longer. 3 days are just too short. Just a cold or something can get in the way, and you miss it. Otherwise, I find the events good, but a bit more time, like before, would be better.
Fewer events: Philip K. writes that there’s always something going on. A big event per month would suffice for him. “
The events are too much for me. I also have a life outside of Pokémon GO.
The problem is that there is never a normal game mode. There’s always some event and only the event Pokémon appear … and the normally available ones from the Unova region are practically impossible to get now.
For my taste, it would be sufficient to have the raid hour on Wednesdays, plus the Community Day once a month, and then just ONE event.
Jasmin K. writes that certain events that were special a year ago are now almost drowned in the flood of other events.
So far, every game that has had a drop in revenue has tried to keep users playing with an overload of events. For me, events (in terms of importance) are something special. A year ago, I was looking forward to a Community Day – now it takes place amidst events and is “almost overlooked”.
Events should stay as is: Other players state that the events should remain as they are. “If that’s too much for you, then just don’t participate,” some argue.
