Testing for a new egg system in Pokémon GO will begin soon. Additionally, raid rewards may be revised.
This will be tested: As announced by Niantic on the “Pokémon GO Live” blog, a test series with two themes is currently being prepared. The first tests concern the eggs in Pokémon GO.
This test is set to take place globally starting Friday, December 11, with the help of a select group of trainers, though it is not specified who will qualify for the test. There is also no end date for the test yet.
During this period, testers will be able to carry 12 eggs instead of the usual 9 – but there’s a catch. The 3 bonus eggs pertain only to eggs obtained from either Adventure Sync or Rocket battles. If you already have 9, you can receive up to 3 bonus eggs from these activities.
Finally more space for eggs?
If the egg space is increased permanently, it should solve an annoying egg problem that has existed since the introduction of 12km eggs from Rocket battles. There have been instances where the egg bag was full, preventing players from getting any of the special eggs. This should be a thing of the past for testers – provided they don’t accidentally run around with 3 filled bonus slots all the time.
The test will happen in two variations:
- For some trainers, the bonus eggs will simply be displayed in the usual egg menu.
- For others, they will come in a sort of bonus compartment.
Both variations have in common that eggs only count towards the Pokémon limit once they are in incubators. Depending on the results, Niantic will involve more trainers in the test.
This is the second test: In addition to the eggs, Pokémon GO is testing revised raid rewards between December 9 and early January. However, this is only being tested in the United Kingdom and Ireland, not in the rest of the world. They have not yet disclosed what the new rewards will look like.
This is the community’s reaction: Discussion about the tests is already happening in the Pokémon GO subreddit. While the expanded egg storage is received positively, some players have suggested other solutions. Notably, many players want the option to delete certain eggs. Others propose a system where players can simply choose from which activities they want to receive eggs.
The raid rewards are still raising questions. One hope that keeps appearing is that they might provide more XL candies. This could help in leveling up legendary monsters more effectively in the future. How the tests will impact the game will become evident in the coming days.
But first, the Community Day in December is coming up – here you can find all the monsters and moves that the event will bring.
