Players are currently receiving sponsored gifts from Grubhub in Pokémon GO, which seem rather strange: the sponsor is not active here at all.
What are sponsored gifts? Those who are currently out and about, perhaps to catch a few Kalos monsters and XP for leveling, might be wondering. At some PokéStops, players are currently receiving pink, sponsored gifts.
In the Pokémon GO Facebook group, several players are reporting on the gifts that they have unexpectedly received. MeinMMO editor Patrick Freese was also surprised this morning when he received this gift “with greetings from Grubhub” at the PokéStop around the corner:
When you open the gift, you receive a few items like potions or balls, as well as a special offer from the provider.
But that seems confused here.
Grubhub is not available here at all
Even the English version as well as the fact that a $5 discount for a Grubhub delivery is being offered seems at least unusual.
Even stranger is the advertising when considering that Grubhub is a delivery service from the USA that is not active here at all. Although you can try to order something with the sponsored gift, you will likely fail at the provider’s website. When you click on the Grubhub homepage, you only receive the message “Sorry about that. Grubhub food delivery is not available in your country.”
So, you cannot use the offer. But at least there are a few items! Why players in Germany are even seeing Grubhub’s advertising is unclear. It may be a mistake. On reddit, other players from various countries report having received the offer but not being able to use it.
How do I turn this off? By the way, if you don’t want to suddenly receive advertising gifts at PokéStops, you can simply turn this off in the Pokémon GO menu.
To do this, you simply need to open the settings and uncheck the box for “show sponsored gifts”. You can find it directly below Adventure Sync and above the push notifications.
More useful than the sponsored gift is the upcoming event for the Game Awards. There, you can really make your Crypto Pokémon useful.
