In Pokémon GO, you can currently find golden PokéStops. What do these stops bring you? We summarize it.
In Pokémon GO, the Lunar New Year event is currently ongoing, until February 21st. One bonus of this event is the sudden appearance of golden PokéStops.
These look like the normal blue PokéStops but shine in gold. However, they also provide you with interesting bonuses.
What do golden PokéStops bring? Golden PokéStops provide you with the following bonuses:
- More items – you can receive various and more items at the stops
- Gierspenst coins: This is the important bonus. You get a chance to collect Gierspenst coins at the golden stops – although this is not guaranteed. You need them to evolve Gierspenst into Monetigo.
The problem: For Monetigo, you need 999 Gierspenst coins. That’s a brutal amount, so it’s worth visiting golden stops as often as possible.
And the second problem: You also need Gierspenst. Unfortunately, the currently appearing golden PokéStops do not provide that.

How do I get Gierspenst from golden PokéStops?
As of now, the newly appearing gold stops do not provide a chance for a Gierspenst encounter. This only works at golden stops that have been activated with a Gold Lure Module. This, in turn, is only possible by using the coin pouch, which you get through a connection with the Nintendo Switch.

So, do golden stops bring me anything? In general, you should always visit them, as you should certainly collect the Gierspenst coins – even if you don’t have Gierspenst yet. Because at some point, an opportunity may arise, and starting to collect coins then will take a long time again.

As of now, golden PokéStops appear randomly, so it is not always the same stop you need to visit.
The golden PokéStops are an interesting bonus in the current event. At the same time, you can also take advantage of an increased shiny chance for Flampion and Zebritz – they are currently in the wild.
