In Pokémon GO, the 3rd Season of the PvP League will start soon. A lot is changing in the game. We will show you all the novelties.
When does Season 3 start? Already on July 27th at 10:00 PM German time, it’s time. Season 2 ends, and Season 3 starts in the PvP League.
Accordingly, there are also some adjustments in Pokémon GO. Niantic has changed moves and slightly adjusted the rules of the leagues.
All novelties for Season 3
This is the exact schedule: Each of the 3 leagues will take place on different days. It was already like this in Season 2. The exact schedule is as follows:
- Great League: July 27 to August 10 at 10:00 PM German time
- Ultra League and Premier Cup: August 10 to August 24 at 10:00 PM German time
- Master League and Premier Cup: August 24 to September 7 at 10:00 PM German time
- All leagues and the Premier Cup (without WP limit): September 7 to September 14 at 10:00 PM German time
The 4th Season is then also supposed to start on September 14th. However, Niantic states that these are preliminary times and they may be adjusted.
This is new: In the Ultra League, we will also now have the Premier Cup . This cup works exactly like the normal league, but you cannot use legendary Pokémon here.
The Flying Cup will make its debut in Season 3. Only Flying-type Pokémon can be used here. When exactly this cup will take place is still unclear. It is supposed to be held as part of an event, for which more information will follow later.
Additionally, there is now an adjustment in battles. You can no longer fight for as long as it takes until you have won once per set. Previously, you could actually only do 5 fights per set, but if you did not win any fights, you could continue fighting until the first victory.
This is changing regarding rewards: The rewards for the league have also changed a bit. Here is an overview:
- Pidgeot from rank 1
- Galarian Zigzagoon from rank 4
- Galarian Raticate from rank 7
- Geronimatz from rank 8
- Zurrokex from rank 9
- Wrestler Pikachu and a new avatar pose from rank 10
Otherwise, there will again be a Top Charged TM at the end of the season from rank 7. All other rewards remain the same.
This does not change: With Season 3, some things also remain. These include:
- There is still no kilometer hurdle you need to reach for the battle
- You still only need to be “good friends” to battle each other remotely
- Avatar items related to Wrestler Pikachu remain available at rank 7
Attack changes for numerous Pokémon
This is new: With the start of Season 3, numerous moves will also be revised. Additionally, some Pokémon can learn new moves.
The majority of these adjustments are important for the PvP mode. Some attacks also affect raids and gyms.
These moves have been revised:
- Aerial Ace: The Charged Attack of the Flying type now causes more damage – both in PvP and in raids
- Brave Bird: The Charged Attack of the Flying type now causes more damage (in PvP and in raids) but also significantly lowers the Pokémon’s attack
- Bug Buzz: The Fast Attack of the Bug type generates energy faster in PvP
- Curse: The Fast Attack of the Ghost type now generates energy faster – both in PvP and in raids
- Icy Wind: The Fast Attack of the Ice type now causes more damage in PvP
- Blizzard: The Charged Attack of the Ice type now causes more damage in PvP
- Flash Cannon: The Charged Attack of the Steel type now requires longer to charge in PvP
- Focus Blast: The Charged Attack of the Fighting type now causes less damage in PvP
- Moonblast: The Charged Attack of the Fairy type now lowers the opponent’s attack less frequently in PvP
Some moves, such as Flash Cannon or Focus Blast, have been weakened. They were previously often used in PvP and may become significantly weaker due to this nerf.
Over the coming weeks, it will become clear how relevant the move changes will actually be for the PvP League.
These moves can now be learned:
- Washakwil can now learn the Fighting Charged Attack Close Combat
- Rexblisar can now learn the Ice Charged Attack Meteorologist
- Pelipper can now learn the Water Charged Attack Meteorologist
- Empoleon can now learn the Flying Charged Attack Aerial Ace
The attack Meteorologist is especially useful for the PvP League. Rexblisar and Pelipper could become significantly more interesting because of this.
