In Pokémon GO there are now the Curiosity Eggs with a 12-kilometer requirement. Some trainers find the requirement too high. Players fear for their safety during the Corona pandemic.
What’s new? Since October 12, 2020, there are new eggs in Pokémon GO. Previously, there were the following types
- 2 km
- 5 km
- 7 km
- and 10 km
Newly introduced are now the 12-km eggs. They are called “Curiosity Eggs” and are dropped by Team GO Rocket bosses. The kilometer count of the eggs refers to how much distance you need to cover with these eggs until they hatch.
From the new eggs, Pokémon of the types Poison or Dark can hatch. Desired Pokémon like Larvitar or Kapuno can hatch from them if you are lucky. But there are also new Pokémon in the 12-km eggs.
The high running distance is being heavily criticized by some players on social media. Others write that it wouldn’t be a good idea to encourage players to go outside during Corona times. The 10-km eggs were already too much. Many players simply cannot understand that Niantic has now increased the requirements again.
Fear for safety?
This is what players say: On Twitter, players write: “Is that 12 KILOMETERS? They seem to be deaf.”
Another player agrees and says that 12 kilometers is too much. Even 10 kilometers would be too much. The yield from the eggs is “just trash.”
The user Joe Merrick runs the website Serebii. It deals with news about Pokémon. He says that the 12-km eggs are just too much right now.
When a user replies to him to stop playing if he doesn’t like it, he writes:
“Yes, you are right. To hell with worrying about the safety of other players.”
Also on YouTube, there are comments that now is not the right time to introduce eggs with such a requirement during the Corona pandemic. Under a video by TrainerTips about the new event, one reads:
Currently, you don’t need to walk 12 kilometers for that
This is important: Currently, in Pokémon GO you do not have to cover the full 12 kilometers distance to hatch the eggs. During the event, the general egg distance has been reduced to a quarter. So, only about 3 kilometers are needed for that.
However, it is not known whether Niantic will remove this bonus after the event. In the blog, Niantic writes about the duration of the event:

Additionally, there are ways to hatch eggs at home. Anyone with fitness equipment like cross trainers, exercise bikes, or a treadmill at home doesn’t need to go outside to cover the distance.
