In Pokémon GO the next research day is coming up. Here you have the opportunity to catch 2 Shinies more easily for a few hours.
What kind of event is this? The research day is an event that takes place repeatedly in Pokémon GO. The focus of the event is on completing field research, which also explains the name of the event. You will be rewarded with an increased Shiny chance for certain Pokémon.
The next research day will take place on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. It is called “Celestial Research Day”.
What to expect on research day
Which Pokémon have an increased Shiny chance? During the event, you can encounter Lunatone and Solrock by completing field research. Both Pokémon have an increased Shiny chance during the event. If you haven’t caught these two Shiny Pokémon yet, this event is a good opportunity to grab both.
How does the event work? To have a chance at the two Shinies, you need to complete field research tasks. What those tasks are has not been revealed yet. You receive field research tasks by spinning PokéStops.
As part of the event, there will be special field research tasks. These will refresh at the start of the event at 2:00 PM. So, if you have already completed a field research task from a PokéStop before that day, you can pick up a new research task at 2:00 PM.
Field research that you receive before the event starts are not event-specific field research and will give you different rewards.
Paid ticket: You also have the option to purchase a paid ticket for $1.99 (approximately €2) that grants you a limited-time research task. Here, you will encounter more Lunatone and Solrock. You have until the end of the event to complete the research task.
Not only the research day is coming up in December in Pokémon GO. There are many other events and content waiting for you in the next few weeks. If you want to know what they are and when they take place, feel free to take a look at our overview with all events in December 2025 in Pokémon GO.
