Niantic introduces the new AR+ mode. This allows you to catch monsters in Pokémon GO in entirely new ways. We show you how it works.
Niantic calls the new augmented reality mode for Pokémon GO “AR+” and will soon make it available to trainers around the world. However, it is currently exclusive to iOS users. Players on Android devices cannot use the new mode yet.
AR+ Guide – How does it work?
The AR+ mode uses the ARKit toolkit provided by Apple. This enhances graphics and dynamics when catching Pokémon. This means that you can expect even more realistic encounters with Pokémon.
Soon, trainers around the world will be able to use the AR+ mode with iOS 11 on the iPhone 6s and newer models.
Scaling: The new AR+ mode ties wild Pokémon to specific points in the environment. Niantic aims to represent how large the monsters would appear in the real world.
A huge Snorlax will clearly block your path, and Charizard will look even more powerful.
Aware: To catch a monster, you need to sneak up on it. Pokémon will run away if they notice trainers approaching. There is a consciousness indicator next to the Pokémon. If it fills up, the monster will disappear. If this happens, you can tap on the tall grass nearby. This may give you another chance to catch the Pokémon.
If you sneak close to a monster without startling it, you will receive an Expert Handler bonus.
The Expert Handler Bonus: In AR+ mode, you can prove if you are a true Pokémon expert. Start your catching attempt from close to a Pokémon to have a better chance of receiving an excellent throw bonus. In addition, the Expert Handler bonus grants you even more experience points and stardust.
Niantic’s presentation of the AR+ mode looks promising. Unfortunately, only iOS users will initially enjoy the new catching possibilities and the Expert Handler bonus. Hopefully, this feature will be quickly released for Android users as well.
