Sony sees Pokémon GO as a “Game Changer” and plans to offer more options in the mobile sector in the future.
Pokémon GO is a major success and a milestone in mobile gaming. The augmented reality game has triggered a huge hype and has already broken 5 Guinness World Records in its first month. Inspired by Pokémon GO, other gaming giants are now planning to establish themselves in the mobile business. During the IFA (International Radio Exhibition), Sony’s CEO Kaz Hirai announced that they want to penetrate the mobile market more strongly.
Future in Mobile Gaming?
In an interview with the Financial Times, Kaz Hirai stated that Pokémon GO is a real game-changer. They are particularly interested in having an influence on how players physically move. However, it is a big step to transition from a console-based business model to the mobile gaming sector.
Combining augmented reality with the game and the outside world is an innovative idea that opens new pathways for the video game industry, says Hirai. This gameplay principle of Pokémon GO attracted many new players. In the first 2 months, the mobile game generated more than 440 million dollars in revenue.
However, the CEO did not disclose any exact plans from Sony in the interview. There is already a PlayStation event on September 7th, which will be streamed live. Fans can expect information about the PS4 Slim and other announcements for the future – perhaps even the PS4 Neo. However, nothing has been officially confirmed yet. This event would also be an opportunity to talk about Sony’s future in the mobile gaming sector and make possible announcements.
