For the Summer Tour 2018 in Pokémon GO, Niantic has announced new details. You can expect Shinys, Alolan forms for two more species, and more rewards.
The Summer Tour: In the coming months, major events will take place in Pokémon GO. There is the Safari Zone in Dortmund and also the GO Fest in Chicago. Later, there will be another Safari Zone in Yokosuka.
Everyone can participate: During the events, there will be global challenges. To participate, you do not need to be present at the event location, but can comfortably play from anywhere. You should be well rewarded for this.
The rewards? There are more XP, more candies, reduced egg hatching distances, and more stardust if you complete enough tasks together.
What’s new? Niantic has now announced what tasks and rewards there are for the respective events.
Explanation of the Summer Events in Pokémon GO 2018
On weekends with special events, trainers will be able to participate in global tasks. The global community will be divided into four regions:
- America,
- Europe, the Middle East, and Africa,
- Asia-Pacific
- and the main location of the research projects
Each region has a set number of research projects. When the goals of the regions are achieved, there are rewards. For the three events in summer 2018, there is the following task overview:
Safari Zone in Dortmund – On June 30 and July 1
During the Safari Zone in Dortmund, the community will be given the following tasks:
- In Dortmund: Complete 100,000 research tasks
- Reward: More catch XP
- Europe, the Middle East, and Africa: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: More raid XP
- America: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: More hatch XP
- Asia-Pacific: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: Lucky Eggs last one hour
It is not yet clear, but presumably the experience points for the respective rewards will be doubled.
More Roselia Spawns + Shiny Roselia
During the Safari Zone in Dortmund, special Pokémon such as Unown or Corasonn will appear in Westfalenpark. Worldwide, there are also rewards with monster spawns. Roselia, the Grass and Poison Pokémon, will appear more frequently during the event worldwide. Also as shiny!

Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago – On July 14 and 15
During the GO Fest in Chicago, there are the following tasks:
- In Chicago at Pokémon GO Fest 2018: Complete 100,000 research tasks
- Reward: More catch candies
- Europe, the Middle East, and Africa: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: More hatch XP
- America: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: Reduced hatch distance
- Asia-Pacific: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: More special candies through raids
It is still unclear how the bonuses will affect “more candies”. It is initially assumed that they will be doubled. Additionally, there will probably be another reward that is still undisclosed.
Minun and Plusle as Shiny
Event bonuses on site: Around the area in Chicago, during the weekend of July 14 and 15, more Snubbull, Barboach, and other Pokémon will appear.
Worldwide: Minun and Plusle will appear more frequently around the globe. If you catch them, you will receive more stardust. Both are also active as shiny during the event.
Alolan Forms of Geodude and Diglett
Starting from the weekend of the GO Fest, Alolan forms of Geodude and Diglett will also appear worldwide in Pokémon GO.
These Alolan forms can become important attackers in Pokémon GO.
Yokosuka Safari Zone – Later in Summer 2018
Later in summer, the Safari Zone in Yokosuka will start. And it will also have challenges for the whole world:
- At the Safari Zone on site: Complete 100,000 research tasks
- Reward: More catch candies
- Europe, the Middle East, and Africa: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: More stardust for catching Pokémon
- America: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: More stardust for hatching Pokémon
- Asia-Pacific: Complete 5,000,000 research tasks
- Reward: More stardust for raids
It is also unclear how much the amount of stardust will increase.
The Mysterious Ultra Bonus
In the embedded graphic at the top of the article, you see an ultra bonus. However, Niantic has not said anything further about it. This will likely be activated after all events are completed.
Here, trainers think of Porenta, which was released as a special reward for global catching everywhere. Niantic may be planning another surprise with a regional Pokémon.
These are cool news that Niantic shares with the community. Now, all trainers have a better idea of what tasks to expect this summer. It is confirmed that all trainers will benefit from the special events in summer 2018, even if they cannot participate in person.
