Pokémon GO has a new regional Pokémon! Schalellos was not even regional at release. So if you have both forms, you can consider yourself lucky.
This is regionality: Players report that the two forms of Schalellos now appear in different regions. Here in Germany, we only have the blue version. It is the eastern form of Schalellos.
The special thing is that Schalellos was initially not regional at all. At the release of the Pokémon, you could catch both forms throughout Germany.
Schalellos as a regional Pokémon
Where is the region boundary? The boundary runs directly along the Prime Meridian. This is seen as the geographical boundary between east and west, which is why Schalellos with its eastern and western form fits perfectly.

The Prime Meridian is not that far away from us. It runs through the UK and France. The western Schalellos are therefore not too far from Germany.
You might have been lucky: When the new wave of Pokémon was released last Friday, both forms of Schalellos surprisingly appeared in all regions. In Germany, you could also catch the western form of Schalellos.
This was probably just a mistake, as the western form of Schalellos disappeared from Germany just a few hours after the launch.
This is already the second mistake associated with Schalellos. The Pokémon was already mistakenly released a few days ago and was taken out of the game after a few minutes. Both forms were also catchable everywhere there.
What other regional Pokémon are there in Gen 4? Schalellos is not the only regional Pokémon. There are also Plaudagei, Pachirisu, and Venuflibis as regional Pokémon. The latter is coming to the GO Fest in Dortmund. So you can catch it for the first time in Germany.
There was also a mistake with this shiny:
