In Pokémon GO, trainers are reporting that the free daily box can get better. I had to try this “trick” for myself and found out: It really works. I will show you how my box improved and what I did.
What kind of trick is this? A few weeks ago, trainers first reported about the phenomenon of the free box that suddenly becomes “better”. This box is a package in the shop that every trainer can pick up for free once a day. The contents vary depending on the trainer.
Usually, it contains a few Poké Balls, berries, and weak potions. But if you wait, the contents can turn for the better.
My box got better – and it was really easy
This is what it’s about: I have seen from various trainers in the last few days that their boxes changed from “mediocre” contents to quite strong variants. The trick was likely unavailable since the first discovery and is now back. For example, trainer kpopthrowaway101 showed on April 6 on reddit that in his free box, there were 2x Fast TMs, 1 Super Incubator, 1 Snorlax, and 3 Lucky Eggs. I had to try it!
How does it work? Well, the trick seems quite simple. You check your free box in the morning, remember what was inside (or just take a screenshot), and then check back in a few hours later. For some trainers, the contents change throughout the day. The exact number of hours is unclear.
This is how it worked for me: On April 7, I checked my “Daily Free Box” in the Pokémon GO shop at 07:17 AM. I found 2 Raspberry and 2 Poké Balls inside. I did not redeem the contents, but simply closed the overview of the box.
In the evening at 10:07 PM, I checked the box again. The contents had changed. Instead of a total of 4 items, there were now 14 items.

- 2 Poké Balls
- After:
- 4 Ultra Balls
- 5 Great Balls
- 2 Potions
- 3 Nanab Berries
I know that this isn’t the strong yield that other trainers rave about. I did not get any Fast TMs, Lucky Eggs, Sinnoh Stones, or Rare Candy in the package. But the contents changed, and that shows me that it can happen to any trainer.
How can you try this? Currently, there is no guaranteed way to reliably alter the box. A few trainers on reddit report that it has worked for them for three consecutive days now.
So, check your free box once in the morning, but do not redeem the items from it. Then come back to the game a few hours later and check if the contents have changed. If yes, redeem them or wait even longer. For some trainers, 11 PM is the ideal time to get good items. But this is just an assumption.
