In Pokémon GO a new event is coming up, during which Team GO Rocket will also undergo some changes – including Giovanni. This means that the best attacker in the game is rotating out for the time being.
What kind of event is this? A new Rocket takeover will take place in Pokémon GO as part of the High Voltage Event.
However, the Rocket takeover will not start at the same time as the event, but rather halfway through: It will kick off on February 1, 2023.
Some important things will come into play here. For instance, during the event, you can unlearn the move Frustration to improve your Crypto attackers. Additionally, Team GO Rocket will send new Crypto Pokémon into battle against you.
And this also applies to Giovanni. This also means: If you still want to get his Crypto-Mewtwo, you should act fast.
Crypto-Mewtwo only available for a few days in Pokémon GO
Why is Crypto-Mewtwo important? The Crypto variant of the powerful Psychic Pokémon is on paper the strongest raid attacker in Pokémon GO. Crypto-Mewtwo not only has extremely strong stats but also access to numerous moves of different types, making it very versatile.
However, Crypto-Mewtwo can only be obtained one way: By battling Giovanni. However, the Pokémon of the Rocket Boss change from time to time.
This is also true for the new Rocket takeover. Here, Crypto-Registeel will become the new Boss Pokémon and replace Crypto-Mewtwo.
Registeel is a strong monster in the PvP league, but plays a lesser role in raids. However, trainers are currently discussing that the Crypto status for Registeel in the battle league may even be a disadvantage due to the reduced defense (via reddit).
If you still want to secure a Crypto-Mewtwo, you should do so quickly – because the deadline expires on February 1. However, it is not that simple.
How can you still get Crypto-Mewtwo? In theory, you just have to defeat the Rocket Boss Giovanni; you can find the best counters here. Then you need to search for the Boss.
However, it requires certain conditions to even encounter the Boss.
- Either you still have a Super Rocket Radar in your item bag with which you can track him down.
- Or you still have a special research task left that rewards you with a Super Rocket Radar.
However, if you have already completed all the corresponding Rocket special research tasks and also no longer have a Super Rocket Radar in your item bag, there is also no way to encounter Giovanni in time.
The next research with a radar is not supposed to come until February 1.
But if you still meet one of the requirements, you still have a week to secure Crypto-Mewtwo.
