In Pokémon GO you may encounter one or another new task in field research during June. One of them is “Battle alongside your buddy while you are out and about.” We from MeinMMO will show you how to complete this quest.
What kind of task is this? When you spin the photo discs at PokéStops in Pokémon GO, you receive so-called field researches. These are tasks that are displayed to you in the “Field” view of the game and bring you a reward upon completion.
Every month, Niantic revises these tasks and rewards or adds them for special events. In the field researches of June, you can now encounter the task: “Battle alongside your buddy while you are out and about.” We will show you what to consider when solving the quest.
How to complete the new quest with your buddy
What is special about this task? So far, tasks related to the buddy mainly involved interacting, walking together, or finding a certain number of candies. Now, you are also supposed to battle with your buddy. However, completing the task is not that easy.
When looking around on social media, it quickly becomes clear that not every fighting opportunity in the game counts towards completing the task. To avoid having major difficulties with this, we will show you how it works.
What to consider when completing the quest “Battle alongside your buddy while you are out and about”
According to attempts by the reddit community, completing this quest apparently only works in GO Battle League battles or in training against Team Leaders Blanche, Candela, or Spark. To do this, you first need to take your buddy on an exploration tour and then enter one of the aforementioned battles together.
For solving it, it’s best to proceed as follows:
- Feed your buddy so that he is finally on the map and you can go exploring together.
- Open the menu via the Pokéball button and click on “Battles”.
- Now you can either join a battle in the GO Battle League or conduct a training battle against one of the Team Leaders.
- GO Battle League: Press the “Fight” button under “GO Battle League”. Now you can select a league and then assemble your team. Here, you must definitely select your buddy. It’s best to set him as your first Pokémon.
- Training battle: Scroll down the page until you see the portraits of Blanche, Candela, and Spark. Here, choose one of the three and then select the league. Now you can include your buddy in your team selection.
- Now carry out the respective battle and you have completed the task.
Note: If you have a buddy with a high CP, he may not be able to participate in all leagues depending on his value. Depending on which league is currently active in the GO Battle League, it may happen that you cannot use your Pokémon in battle at all. In this case, you must revert to the training battle. The following CP limits apply:
- Great League up to 1,500 CP per Pokémon
- Ultra League up to 2,500 CP per Pokémon
- Master League unlimited CP per Pokémon
What about other battles? Other battles, such as Gym battles or fights against Team GO Rocket, have apparently not counted for this quest according to the comments on reddit so far. Even PvP battles between two friends could not solve the task. So, it’s better to stick to the GO Battle League or training battles for solving it.
What reward awaits you? If you complete the quest, you will be rewarded with an encounter with Smogon or Bluzuk. With a bit of luck, you might even encounter a shiny version.
Are there more new buddy tasks like this?
Another buddy task available during Adventure Week is “Earn 3 candies by exploring with your buddy.” However, this is fundamentally just a rephrasing of the well-known task of walking with your buddy and collecting candies.
How can this quest be completed? Just like with the fighting quest, you should also feed your buddy here first and take him on an exploration trip. Then, all you need to do is walk until your Pokémon has found the desired number of candies.
This can vary depending on the Pokémon, as each monster has to cover a different distance to find a candy. Some Pokémon only need to cover 1 km, while others require 3 km, 5 km, or even 20 km.
Use this trick: To avoid having to travel for a long time to collect the required candies, you should first check your buddy history. You may have already covered a large part of the distance with a Pokémon in the past and only need a few meters to reach the next candy.
In this case, it’s best to feed a Knurps beforehand. This allows your buddy to find a candy after only half the distance. If you only have a few meters left to reach the original distance, you will receive two candies right away.
If you don’t have a Pokémon in your buddy history that you can use for this, then you should rely on a monster with a short distance. Pokémon like Rattfratz or Taubsi are suitable because they only need to walk 1 km to find a candy.
What reward do you get? If you complete this task, you will receive an encounter with Galapaflos or Flapteryx during Adventure Week, which can also be shiny with a bit of luck.
