In Pokémon GO runs today on Saturday, December 7th, the big Raid Day with the starters of the 1st generation. We provide you an overview of counters, times and the Shinys, so you can make the most of the Raid Day today.
What kind of Raid Day is this? Trainers are already familiar with such a Raid Day in Pokémon GO from legendary Pokémon like Entei or Lavados. Gengar or Lapras also have such a day.
In this event, you’ll find special Raid bosses in all gyms for 3 hours. This time it’s all about the starters of the 1st generation and their evolutions.
Raid Day with Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise – All Information and Bonuses
When: On Saturday, December 7th, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM German time
Pokémon of the Day: Bulbasaur family, Charmander family, Squirtle family
Bonus: All Pokémon can be encountered as Shiny
Bonus: 5 free Raid passes are available
This is how the event runs: At exactly 11 AM, a raid appears in each gym that includes one of the starter Pokémon. All evolution forms can be encountered.
Gyms that have just sent out an EX Raid invitation are excluded from the Raid Day.
Shiny Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise
What Shinys are available? In general, each of these Pokémon is already available as Shiny in the game. The special feature here is that you can encounter direct evolutions as Shiny.
Until now, you could only catch the basic form and then evolve it.
What is the Shiny rate? So far, during all Raid Days, the chance for Shinys has been increased. This should also be the case this time. So you have a good chance of encountering a shiny starter Pokémon in Pokémon GO today.
How to make the most of the event
Are many raids worth it? From a usability standpoint, none of the starter Pokémon is really outstanding. However, you can secure a few good specimens to evolve them during the Community Day in December. There they will learn strong moves.
Additionally, the Raid rewards have been adjusted. In Level 4 Raids, where the final evolutions are found, there are now guaranteed Charged TMs. If you still need some, focus on these raids.
These tips will help you: If you want to move quickly in Pokémon GO on Saturday, you should keep the following tips in mind:
- Look for an area with many gyms
- Many raids only work in places with plenty of gyms. So consider heading to the next town to find more gyms.
- Plan your route in advance
- Planning is the most important thing on a Raid Day. Determine in advance at which gyms you want to raid. This saves time during the event.
- Fight while moving
- Once you’re in the raid and fighting, you can move away from the gym. However, you must ensure that you don’t end up back in the lobby, as you won’t be able to return to the fight. While fighting, you can already move on and get to the next gym. This saves time.
- Opt for small groups
- Smaller groups are easier to coordinate and allow for faster movement. We recommend a group size of 4-6 players. This way you won’t be held up by too many players.
Use these counters against Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise
You don’t need good counters here: You can defeat the basic form and the first evolution of the starters without significant counters. Even players with small accounts won’t have major issues here.
The best counters against Venusaur
These types are good: Venusaur is of the types Poison and Grass, and therefore weak against the types Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic.
Use these Pokémon:

Use these Pokémon:
- Rampardos with Smack Down and Rock Slide
- Terrakion with Smack Down and Rock Slide
- Tyranitar with Smack Down and Stone Edge
- Rhyperior with Smack Down and Stone Edge
- Aerodactyl with Rock Throw and Rock Slide
