On Pokémon GO, today Sunday, May 17, the Smoke Day featuring Kanivanha is taking place. We show you the schedule, the bonuses, and the best ways to take advantage of the event.
What is a Smoke Day? This event is being held for the second time in May and puts the item “Smoke” in the spotlight. You can catch special Pokémon from the smoke for 6 hours.
This time, Kanivanha is the star. You will encounter this Pokémon and other Dark and Water-type monsters.
Smoke Day with Kanivanha – Start Time and Bonuses
When: On Sunday, May 17, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time
Pokémon of the Day: Kanivanha
Bonus: Each hour the smoke attracts Pokémon of different types
Bonus: 3x Smoke can be purchased for one PokéCoin
What you should know about the times: Every hour, the type of Pokémon that spawns will change. If you need Dark-type Pokémon, you should only check in every 2 hours. Water Pokémon will be interesting during the other hours.
How to Take Advantage of Smoke Day
This is the schedule: To know exactly which Pokémon spawn when, we show you the schedule:
- 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM: Water Pokémon
- 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM: Dark-type Pokémon
- 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM: Water Pokémon
- 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM: Dark-type Pokémon
- 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM: Water Pokémon
- 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM: Dark-type Pokémon
Which Water Pokémon are there? Announced are Seepper, Schallquap, and Mamolida. Seepper is particularly interesting because it can be shiny.
Other possible spawns include Krabby, Schiggy, Quapsel, Tentacha, Karpador, Lampi, and Schmerbe.
Which Dark-type Pokémon are there? Announced Pokémon are Kramurx, Zobiris, and Zurrokex. Zurrokex is exciting because it has only been available as a reward from the PvP League. Here you will have the chance to obtain it for the first time outside of the event.
Additionally, Pokémon like Fiffyen or Alolan Rattata could spawn. However, the list of Dark-type Pokémon is significantly shorter than that of Water Pokémon.
Will there be shiny Kanivanha? The shiny is already in the game and you will be able to catch it during the event. In the Smoke Day with Wiesor, Wiesor was encountered more frequently as shiny. So it is quite likely that this will also be the case for Kanivanha.
Which hours are more worthwhile? In terms of rarity, you should aim to catch at least one Zurrokex. Some may still lack its evolution, so you should also consider using Sananabeeren here.
Otherwise, you should weigh which type you need more shinies from and focus especially on those hours.
Should you go out during the event? You will not get more event spawns this way. The smoke attracts a Pokémon every minute anyway, and you can almost continuously catch them. If you move, you will not attract more monsters.
Currently, however, the Hoenn Event is running. You can combine it with the Smoke Day and catch Pokémon from the smoke, such as Kanivanha and Hoenn spawns like Eneco.
Prepare properly: If you want to catch for all 6 hours, you should have enough balls. We recommend a minimum of 400 balls, as otherwise, you will quickly have nothing left to catch Pokémon.
Thanks to some adjustments, you can currently obtain many balls from gifts. With that, Niantic is addressing the ball shortage of players.
