Legendary Lunchtime Event in March – Start Times and Bonuses
When: On Wednesday, March 13 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM German time
Pokémon of the Day: Dialga
Bonus: Legendary raid bosses will appear in all gyms
This is how the legendary lunchtime event works
This is important: This type of event has not occurred before. Therefore, it is not possible to say exactly how this event will unfold. We are relying on statements from Niantic.
This is how the raids will come: According to Niantic, at 11:50 AM all gyms in the game will receive a legendary egg. This egg will hatch 10 minutes later, at noon.
This means that from noon, there will be a raid at every gym. So if you want to battle in gyms, you can forget about it during this time.
Are there bonuses? So far, Niantic has mentioned nothing about bonuses. However, there may well be some kind of bonus given at the start of the event. This remains to be seen.
What is behind the legendary lunchtime event: The developers want to try something new. They are implementing a completely new time. On a Wednesday at noon, only players who are currently on their lunch break will be able to participate. Niantic hopes for your feedback on whether such an event should happen again in the future.
What we know about the raid boss Dialga
These raids will be available: During the one hour, there will be only legendary raids. In this case, it will only be Dialga. You will not encounter any other raid boss.

What you should know about Dialga: Dialga is a Dragon and Steel type Pokémon. A 100% Dialga will have 2307 CP in the raid. With a weather bonus during snow or wind, it can even reach 2884 CP.
How many people do you need? You can manage Dialga with just two players. However, you need very strong counters and cloudy weather. Otherwise, you can comfortably take down Dialga with three and definitely with four players.
These are the counters: The legendary Pokémon is weak against Ground and Fighting types. The three best counters are:
- Machamp
- Gardevoir
- Groudon (especially in sunny weather)
A larger list of top counters can be found in our guide to Dialga.
Is Dialga worth it? The Pokémon is indeed a strong attacker. So it is worth utilizing the legendary lunchtime event. A detailed analysis of Dialga and a comparison with Palkia can be found here:

How to make the most of the event
To help you make the most of the event, we provide you with some tips:
Timing is crucial: This event lasts only for one hour. Therefore, it is crucial to be quick. If you really want to do as many raids as possible, you shouldn’t spend too much time on individual raids.
Gather a group ahead of time: To avoid wasting time, gather a group for raids beforehand. Don’t make this group too large, as it can slow things down. A smaller group with 5 players is much more effective.
Make a plan in advance: Think ahead about which gyms are close together and where it’s worth raiding. Those with a specific route will be faster.
Use the right counters: One of the best ways to save time is with the right counters. If everyone has a strong Machamp team, which is currently possible due to the Battle Event, you will be much faster than with Regice or Lugia as counters.
Keep moving: Once you start the battle against Dialga and are out of the lobby, you can keep moving. You can also catch while walking. This way, by the time you finish the raid, you’ll hopefully already be at the next raid and can start directly. This saves a lot of time.
Have these items ready: If you’re quick, you can easily manage 8-10 raids in one hour. So make sure to bring plenty of raid passes.
Moreover, using a lucky egg for so many consecutive raids is worthwhile. You will earn 20,000 XP per raid with it.
