On Saturday, February 23, the limited Research with Perlu will start in Pokémon GO. We will provide you with all the info about possible Shinies, the start time, and the quests so that you are well prepared.
What are limited Researches? This type of event is being held for the second time. Last month, Barschwa kicked things off and now Perlu follows.
During the 3-hour event, you will find field researches all around the event Pokémon. Additionally, there will be further bonuses available for just 3 hours.
Limited Researches in February – GMT+0: Start Times and Bonuses
When: On Saturday, February 23, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM German time (GMT+1)
Pokémon of the Day: Perlu
Bonus: First chance at Perlu
Bonus: Double Stardust when catching Pokémon
Bonus: Water Pokémon will spawn more frequently in the wild

This is what GMT+0 means: In the in-game notification, it mentions 10 AM as the start time. However, this refers to the GMT+0 time zone. In Germany, we have the GMT+1 time zone, which is why the event starts at 11 AM.
Update 11:10 AM: Shiny Perlu is also in the game! The first players in Europe have caught the shiny form of the Pokémon!

What are the Perlu Quests?
A dataminer says: The dataminer Chrales has found some quests in the code that are likely intended for the Perlu Day. Although the field researches have not been confirmed by Niantic yet, it is quite expected that these quests are for Perlu:
- Battle in a gym
- Battle in a raid
- Use a very effective charged attack in a gym battle
- Use 3 berries when catching Pokémon
- Catch a Magikarp or Wailmer
- Catch a Psyduck or Krabby
- Catch 5 Water Pokémon
- Evolve 2 Water Pokémon
- Make 3 curveball throws
- Make 3 nice throws
- Make 3 nice throws in a row
- Spin 2 PokéStops

This is what these quests tell us: At first glance, these field researches seem quite easy. Many tasks are not comparable to the researches on Barschwa Day.
Perlu, Aalabyss and Saganabyss – Evolving?
This is known about the evolutions: Perlu has two evolutions. Both Pokémon evolve directly from Perlu. This is done similar to Eevee.
Saganabyss and Aalabyss are randomly evolved. There is no known trick to guarantee getting both Pokémon. You will need luck to obtain both monsters on your first attempt.

Could there be an evolution trick? So far, it is said that the evolutions are random. Whether a trick will help with the evolution is still unknown. One must wait until the event and see if there will be a trick.
Is there also a Shiny Perlu?
Niantic says: In the announcement for the event, Niantic did not mention Shiny Perlu. It is assumed that this Pokémon will only appear in its normal form for now.
These Shinys will be available: Even if there may not be a Shiny Perlu, shiny hunters could still be rewarded. Niantic mentioned that there will be increased Water Pokémon appearing. There are numerous Shinys:

These Pokémon do not have to appear frequently in the wild on Saturday. They are simply Water Pokémon that can also be Shiny.
WP for a Perlu from the quest – 100% IV
This is the WP your Perlu must have: If you get a Perlu from the quest, it will generally have good IV. The maximum a Perlu from the quest can have is 544 WP, which is 100% IV. If you get such a Perlu from the quest, you should definitely catch it.
Are the evolutions of Perlu strong? Even if you do not get a 100% IV Perlu, it’s not tragic. Perlu and its evolutions play a minor role in the meta of Pokémon GO. It is much more important for the PokéDex.
These tips will help you for the event
- Remember: You receive only one field research per PokéStop each day. If you already know which PokéStops you will play at during the event, you should not pick up or complete quests there before Saturday. Only spin the Photo Discs after the event starts so that you receive the Perlu quests.
- An area with many PokéStops is important. The more PokéStops you have, the more quests you can complete.
- At the end of the event, collect three field researches. As long as you have these in your inventory, you can complete them later.
- Save Nanab berries! You will need 50 candies each for the evolution of Perlu. If you want to evolve both possible evolutions, Aalabyss and Saganabyss, you should catch the Perlu from the quest with the Nanab berries.
- Activate a Star Piece, as there is double dust when catching Water Pokémon. This makes catching even more worthwhile.
Be ready for raiding: Not only will you see Perlu this weekend. The legendary raid boss Latias will return. You will also encounter this Pokémon in its shiny form.

You can ideally combine the quest “Battle in a raid” with a Latias raid.
Soon, the long-awaited team switch will also work:
