What is the Master Ball? The Master Ball is the best ball you can get in Pokémon GO. However, it is extremely rare and can currently only be found in one way, and so far only once.
How do I get the Master Ball? The Master Ball has been available in Pokémon GO since May 22nd. You can only obtain it through the current research “Nothing but out and GO”. This special research has been available since March 21st, but the last stages and rewards were not yet accessible.
This has now changed: Since May 22nd, you can earn the final rewards for “Nothing but out and GO”. This includes the Master Ball. You will receive it once you have completed step 5 of the research.
Important: You can only obtain this research until June 1st. So anyone who has not gotten it yet should secure it through a login. Once you have it, there is no time limit to complete it.
How does the Master Ball work in Pokémon GO?
What can the Master Ball do? It is capable of capturing any wild Pokémon without fail. It doesn’t matter if it comes from the wild, comes from a raid, or is attracted by smoke or a lure module.
How does the Master Ball work? Once you have it, you can select it normally in the ball selection. However, you will receive a prompt asking if you really want to use the Master Ball. If you click here indicating you really want to, a special capture animation of the Master Ball will start.
Can I throw the Master Ball inaccurately? No, this is prevented by the capture animation. As soon as you select the ball, it does the rest automatically. The Pokémon cannot dodge or fend off the ball, and you can’t throw the ball inaccurately or “too poorly”.

Will I get multiple Master Balls? As it stands, you can initially only get one Master Ball. You should therefore think carefully about what you want to use the guaranteed capture on.
However, Niantic also explained in the announcement of the feature that you “do not get one of the rare and powerful Master Balls every day,” and you should “keep an eye out for further opportunities” to get more. Therefore, there will be additional chances. But how often, when, and how many balls there will be is completely open.
