In Pokémon GO there is a new, coveted Gen 7 monster: Miniras. We at MeinMMO have looked at what kind of Pokémon it is and how you can get it. We also tell you whether it is worth it for you.
What kind of Pokémon is it? With the start of the Alola season, you can also encounter the Alola Pokémon Miniras in Pokémon GO. It belongs to the Dragon type and can be evolved into Mediras and Grandiras.
How to get Miniras – Locations and Chances
As you already know from other dragons in Pokémon GO, they are very hard to get. The same goes for Miniras. The small dragon Pokémon can currently be found in two ways: through hatching eggs and in the wild.
10-km Eggs
One way to get a Miniras is by hatching 10-km eggs. You receive these, just like 2-km and 5-km eggs, with a bit of luck by spinning at PokéStops or gyms.
However, these eggs also contain other monsters, and it is evident from the egg preview in the game that the little dragon hatches there rather rarely. For this reason, it also requires some luck to get a Miniras.
The exact chance has been examined by trainers from The Silph Road. As of March 18, 2022, a total of 181 10-km eggs were hatched. Out of those, only 3 were Miniras. This corresponds to a rate of 1.7%. Thus, Miniras is currently the rarest Pokémon in this egg category (via thesilphroad.com).

Wild Spawns
As Niantic announced in their overview of the Alola season, Miniras can also be found in the wild (via pokemongolive.com). However, there, like most other dragons, it is only rarely found. With some luck, you can catch it in windy weather.
To increase your chances a bit, we recommend networking with other trainers in your region. This way, you can inform each other when a wild Miniras has been spotted.
What kind of Pokémon is Miniras?
Miniras is a Dragon-type Pokémon from Generation 7. You can recognize it by its gray-black dragon-like body and its large gold shield on its forehead. It also walks on four legs and has a long tail with a kind of club.
Its two evolutions Mediras and Grandiras, however, walk on two legs. Their golden-yellow armors on their body, their large shields, and their tail clubs are even more pronounced than those of Miniras. Additionally, individual armor plates are decorated in red.
Is there a Shiny Miniras?
No, unfortunately, you cannot currently obtain Shiny Miniras in the game. If it is ever available, you will recognize it by a green-black body and a pink shield. As soon as it becomes available as Shiny, you will find out here at MeinMMO.
How strong is Miniras?
The Dragon-type Pokémon is not particularly strong itself. Its final evolution, Grandiras, however, performs quite well. It has a strong attack value and an even better defense value. Its stamina is also commendable.
In the GO Battle League, the Dragon and Fighting Pokémon with a moveset of Dragon Tail, Close Combat, and Dragon Claw ranks highly in all three leagues (via pvpoke.com).
In Raid battles it also shows its strength, but does not quite measure up to the best Dragon attackers in Pokémon GO, such as Rayquaza, Dialga, or Knakrack. With Dragon Tail and Dragon Claw, it has a fast and powerful moveset that deals significant damage to opponents.
Is it worth catching Miniras?
Yes, if you come across a wild Miniras or get it from an egg, you should definitely keep it. The likelihood of finding one is not as good as the initial data from The Silph Road indicates.
Moreover, evolving Miniras is a real asset to your team and can be especially useful in PvP battles.
