In Pokémon GO the “Mountains of Power” event is currently taking place and brings you a rare monster for a short period. We will show you which monster it is, where you can find it, and if it’s worth your time.
What is it about? From January 7th, 2022 at 10:00 AM local time to January 13th, 2022 at 8:00 PM local time, there will be an event named “Mountains of Power” in Pokémon GO. Accordingly, you can spin special event quests at your PokéStops.
One of these tasks will simply reward you with a rather rare Pokémon: Mawile. We have summarized for you below in which quest Mawile is hidden, how to receive the tasks, and whether the monster is worth it.
How to get Mawile
To obtain Mawile, you need to complete the corresponding event field research. You will find this alongside two other special quests during the event at your PokéStops. As you are used to from field research from January 2022, you just need to spin the respective PokéStop.
The tasks will appear in your “Field” overview, which you can access by clicking on the magnifying glass. All quests that will only be available during the “Mountains of Power” will be marked as event tasks in the “Field” overview. The following three researches await you:

All monsters that you can catch in their shiny form with some luck are marked with an (*).
How long can you secure the tasks? The event researches can be found in-game during the entire “Mountains of Power” event. So you can secure them until January 13th, 2022, at 8:00 PM local time. You then have unlimited time to complete the tasks.
Is Mawile worth it?
What kind of Pokémon is Mawile? Mawile is a Pokémon from the 3rd generation, which does not have a pre-evolution or evolution. However, it belongs to the monsters that can receive a temporary mega evolution, which is currently not available in Pokémon GO.
The Steel and Fairy-type Pokémon is one of the rarer monsters in the game. In the past, you could only encounter Mawile with Team GO Rocket, by completing special researches, or occasionally in raids. However, the monster does not spawn in the wild at all.
How strong is Mawile? With its attack, stamina, and defense values, Mawile cannot impress, as they are all rather average. Consequently, it is also not the right candidate for use in raids or the PvP league (via pvpoke.com).

Is there a shiny Mawile? Yes, Mawile is available in its shiny form in the game. You can recognize it, as shown in the picture below, by its purple jaw.
Why should you secure the quest with Mawile?
Even though Mawile is not one of the best attackers in the game, you should not miss the chance to obtain an example. The main reason for this is that it is so rare to find in the game. So if you haven’t registered it in your Pokédex yet, you definitely should do so now.
Additionally, Mawile is available in shiny form in the game. However, due to its rarity, it is usually particularly hard to encounter a shiny Mawile. Thus, shiny hunters will have a great time with this quest.
Furthermore, the task is relatively easy to complete. It’s best to choose a Pokémon as a buddy that requires a short distance to walk, like Rattata, so you’ll have both candies collected after just two kilometers.
Are the other two event quests worth it?
Alolan Geodude and Shelmet are also available in their shiny forms in the game, with Shelmet being available for the first time. Even though the monster can be found in the wild throughout the event, you can also try your luck for a shiny with this task.
You can also find Alolan Geodude currently in Level-1 raids. If you don’t want to invest too many raid passes for a shiny, you can also try your luck through the respective event quest. However, Alolan Geodude is also obtainable outside the event, especially when it rains or is partly cloudy.
Particularly strong are Shelmet and Alolan Geodude, as well as their evolutions, which are not very prominent either. They play a rather minor role in raids or the PvP league.
