The legendary Pokémon Thundurus dominates the raids of Pokémon GO and can already be defeated in a duo. We show you how to succeed at level 25 with two players.
When can you challenge Thundurus? The legendary Pokémon is available in Level 5 raids for a few more weeks. You can challenge it until April 21 at 10 PM German time. The Raid Boss is worth it, as you can read in our analysis.

How to defeat Thundurus in a duo
Use these counters: Ice and Water types are effective against Thundurus. Ice type, in particular, is especially strong, as Thundurus has a double weakness to it.

Rely on these aids: With some aids, you can deal significantly more damage in the raid. The friendship level between you and your raid partner boosts you in battle. So it’s best to be “best friends” with your partner, as this gives you the most combat advantages.
The weather can also be crucial. Ice Pokémon are boosted in the snow, which is currently quite rare. Water Pokémon are boosted in the rain. They can benefit from a battle advantage if it is raining in the game. However, in our calculations, we only considered the friendship level.
Defeating Thundurus at Level 25 – Here’s how
Meet these requirements: At this level, it becomes quite easy as best friends with the right counters. However, you must at least be hyper friends. Weather is not decisive here.
Use these Pokémon: Only 2 Ice Pokémon and Mewtwo are available here. Pay attention to the right moves for the following monsters:
- Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
- Glaceon with Icy Wind and Avalanche
- Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Ice Beam
Defeating Thundurus at Level 30 – Here’s how
Meet these requirements: Here it is sufficient to be hyper friends with your partner. However, if you want to get to victory more easily, rely on a better friendship level. Weather is also not relevant here.
Use these Pokémon: 2 more Ice Pokémon are available here. You can use the following monsters:
- Snover with Ice Shard and Avalanche
- Roselia with Icy Wind and Avalanche
Defeating Thundurus at Level 35 – Here’s how
Meet these requirements: At level 35, the battle in a duo is already quite relaxed. The friendship level does not need to be as high anymore and you can use more Pokémon.
Use these Pokémon: 4 more Pokémon are added here. At level 35, you can also use the first Water Pokémon for a duo:
- Articuno with Icy Wind and Blizzard
- Kyogre with Waterfall and Blizzard
- Glalie with Powder Snow and Ice Shard
- Mew with Icy Wind and Ice Beam
Defeating Thundurus at Level 40 – Here’s how
Meet these requirements: If your Pokémon are at level 40, you no longer need a friendship level, provided you use the best counters. If you choose slightly weaker Pokémon, continue to rely on the friendship boost.
Use these Pokémon: 3 more Pokémon are added when they are at level 40 and know the right moves:
- Walrein with Icy Wind and Blizzard
- Lapras with Icy Wind and Ice Beam
- Regice with Icy Wind and Blizzard
How difficult is the battle? Thundurus is indeed quite easy to defeat in a duo. Even at level 25, you still have some time left with the right counters. So if you fight in a trio, you should have almost no problems.
