This is the Special Research: “A Long Shadow” revolves around the Rocket bosses Arlo, Sierra, and Cliff. Rocket Boss Giovanni has also been in the game since the quest was introduced. With the help of the Special Research, you can challenge him.
Why can’t I participate? You must have already completed the Special Research “A Disturbing Situation” to unlock “A Long Shadow”. If you haven’t done this yet, you need to finish “A Disturbing Situation” first.
How to find the bosses and Giovanni – Solution
This is what you need to do: To reach Giovanni, you need to support Professor Willow. You must complete several steps to ultimately locate Giovanni.
Step 1: Open the Special Research “A Long Shadow”.
Step 2: Challenge Team GO Rocket Grunts. They can drop “Mystery Components”.
Step 3: Build Rocket Radars. Six mystery components make one Rocket Radar. With this, you can scan the area to find the bosses.
Step 4: Fight the bosses. You can track down Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra using the Radar. Bring your strongest Pokémon, defeat the trio, and save their Shadow Pokémon. The special thing is: Only when trainers have equipped the Radar can they uncover a boss hideout at PokéStops.
Step 5: Complete the Special Research. Then you can receive a Super Rocket Radar, with which you can find Giovanni. However, some Grunts may pretend to be Giovanni – it’s not going to be easy.
Once you have found Giovanni, you might even receive a legendary Shadow Pokémon from him. Currently, this is one of the three legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres.

- Defeat Team GO Rocket Boss Arlo (1250 XP)

Rewards: 2000 Stardust / Super Rocket Radar / 3 Golden Raspberries
