In Pokémon GO you can currently encounter Shiny Meltan, but you need the Mystery Box for that. You can use it more often than usual right now.
What is currently happening in Pokémon GO? In Pokémon GO, the new “Let’s GO” event is currently running, which brings various content and bonuses. This also includes that you can encounter Shiny Meltan again. This shimmering Pokémon is only available during certain events – just like now.
To encounter Meltan, you need to use the Mystery Box. The special thing about the event: You can currently use the box every two days instead of every three days as usual.
Moreover, the box lasts a whole hour when you activate it and brings you numerous Meltan encounters. Here you have to hope for your luck that the Shiny is among them.
No mention of an increased Shiny chance can be found in the announcement from Niantic (via pokemongolive.com), apart from the fact that it is now available again. However, there is an increased probability for XXS and XXL Meltan.
Use Mystery Box in the Let’s-GO-Event 2023 – Here’s how to encounter Meltan
How many chances do I have? The event runs from March 21 to March 29. So if you start with the first box at the event start, you get a total of 5 chances to activate the box and encounter Meltan.
To get the 5 chances, activate the box:
- On March 21 after 10:00 AM.
- On March 23.
- On March 25.
- On March 27.
- On March 29 before 8:00 PM.
After the event, only the “normal” Meltan is expected to be available again. We summarize how the Mystery Box works here.
How to use the Mystery Box: To get the Mystery Box, you need to connect your Pokémon GO either with the Pokémon games “Let’s GO” for the Switch or with the app “Pokémon Home”. For the latter, you can also use your smartphone.
If you have both apps, you can connect Pokémon GO with Home in the settings. You can find the setting under “connected devices and services”.
After the connection, you receive the Mystery Box like this:
- Choose “Transfer Pokémon” in the Home section of Pokémon GO
- Proceed with the transporter screen. Note: You won’t get the monster back in Pokémon GO. And when the transporter’s energy is empty, you can’t transfer any more monsters. It gradually recharges.
- Retrieve the monster in Pokémon Home.
- In Pokémon GO, you will receive the Mystery Box or a new activation of the box in exchange.
Keep in mind: You can only unlock the box every two days during the event. The chances for Shiny Meltan are thus limited. You can also see the countdown when you click on the Mystery Box and cannot activate it.
Catching Meltan: When you activate the Mystery Box, it works like incense. Every minute, you will get Meltan spawns for an hour while the event is ongoing.
You can now click on each individual Meltan and catch it – and you have to hope that the Shiny is among them. However, a strong, normally looking Meltan is already worth it, as its evolution Melmetal is very useful in PvP.
