In the Pokémon GO update 0.133.0, there is a new evolution mechanic related to the genders of Pokémon.
What’s new? Niantic is currently rolling out the latest Pokémon GO update. In addition to numerous bug fixes, there is also a new mechanic for evolving.
In these evolutions, the genders are important. Until now, the genders did not play a significant role in the game, but that might change. It looks like this mechanic stipulates that you can only evolve a Pokémon if it has a certain gender. This is important for some Pokémon of the 4th generation that have not yet been released.
That’s why new Pokémon could be coming soon
This is what lies behind this mechanic: If you have played the console games of Pokémon, you will know about these special evolutions. Some Pokémon only evolve into a special form if they are male or female.
In Pokémon GO, this mechanic has not been of interest so far. You could evolve any Pokémon, regardless of its gender.
New Pokémon could be coming: However, in the 4th generation, there are two Pokémon that can only evolve if they have a very special gender.
- A male Kirlia evolves into Galagladi
- A female Schneppke evolves into Frosdedje
With the new mechanic found in the update’s code, you could potentially obtain these special Pokémon.
When could these evolutions come? As soon as the new update is available for all devices, the evolutions could theoretically also be released. A rollout of the update will likely take a few days, but could be completed by the end of the week.
Whether the evolutions will be released right away is unknown. Niantic has only included this mechanic in the code and does not necessarily have to apply it. However, it is interesting to see that the update brings such a mechanic and that Niantic has already engaged with the topic.
