In October, a Community Day featuring Shuppet will take place in Pokémon GO. On this occasion, its final evolution, Dusknoir, will receive a special charged attack. We at MeinMMO have examined how strong Dusknoir will become with it.
What kind of event is this? Every month, Pokémon GO hosts a Community Day that highlights a specific Pokémon, which spawns more frequently during the event. In October, this will be Shuppet along with its two evolutions, Shupet and Dusknoir.
Additionally, Dusknoir, the final evolution, will receive a special charged attack when evolving that day. As Niantic has already announced, there will be a charged attack called Shadow Ball available for the Community Day in October (via pokemongolive.com).
What kind of Pokémon are these?
Shuppet is a Ghost-type Pokémon from Generation 3. It can evolve into Dusknoir via Shuppet. Shuppet is not a strong monster as it does not excel in attack or stamina. Its defense is only average, making it unsuitable for raids and PvP battles.
Similarly, Shupet is also a Ghost-type monster. Although its stats are slightly better than its pre-evolution’s, its attack and stamina still remain average. Only its defense has a slight advantage. There are stronger Pokémon that perform better in battles.
Dusknoir is the second evolution of Shuppet. It can evolve from Shupet using a Sinnoh Stone. Dusknoir is from Generation 4 and is also a Ghost-type. All three evolutions are therefore weak against Dark and Ghost-type attacks.
How strong will Dusknoir be with Shadow Ball?
Dusknoir has two fast moves, Hex and Astonish, both Ghost-type. So far, it could learn only the Ghost move Shadow Ball and the other attacks Confusion (Psychic) and Dark Pulse (Dark).
The Shadow variant also has access to Frustration (Normal) or, in its purified form, Return (Normal). On the Community Day on October 9, 2021, Dusknoir will also be able to learn the Ghost move Shadow Ball. This move is only available during the event and can be taught afterward only with the use of an Elite Charge TM.
But how strong will it be with this new move? Looking at Dusknoir’s current stats, it can mostly score in defense. Its attack stats are rather solid, and its stamina is unremarkable. Therefore, according to the overview from PvPoke, it is not the first choice in raids either or in the PvP league (via pvpoke.com).
The new move is expected to be Dusknoir’s strongest. It takes a moment longer to charge than its other moves, but it also deals slightly more damage. Thus, it may improve Dusknoir’s stats, particularly in the PvP league.
However, Dusknoir will still have poor stamina. This makes it more vulnerable in battles, which is why other monsters are better candidates for use in raids and the PvP league. As a result, Dusknoir will likely be benched by most trainers.
