The Community Day in June with Kaumalat also brings a new move for its evolution Garchomp. How strong will the monster be in Pokémon GO?
When will the new move come? The new move is the ground attack “Earth Power.” Every Garchomp that you evolve during the upcoming Community Day on June 6, 2021, or up to two hours after the event will get it. You can find out here how the Community Day with Kaumalat will run.
Earth Power makes Garchomp even more dangerous
This is how Garchomp benefits from the move: Garchomp is already among the best attackers in Pokémon GO. The Dragon and Ground-type monster can deal good damage in both categories. With Earth Power, Garchomp becomes an even better attacker in gyms and raids regarding the ground type.
If you replace Earthquake with Earth Power, only Stunfisk and Therian Forme Landorus are ahead of Garchomp among ground attackers according to an analysis by Gamepress – at least regarding pure damage per second (via GamePress).
In comparison with Stunfisk, Garchomp has the advantage of being more durable and thus getting more chances to deal significant damage to raid or gym monsters before it gets defeated. This allows it to deal overall more damage.
Compared to Therian Forme Landorus, it also has another advantage: Ground Pokémon like Garchomp or Landorus are often used as counters against Electric Pokémon. Garchomp has a triple resistance against Electric attacks, while Landorus only has a single resistance against Electric.
Furthermore, Landorus is a legendary monster for which it is hard to collect candies. However, with Garchomp, you can use the entire Community Day to not only get a strong specimen but also to collect enough candies for level-ups.
Overall, it can be said: In raids and gyms, Garchomp with Earth Power can deal even more damage than with Earthquake. And if one day its Mega Evolution Mega Garchomp comes into the game, this monster with Earth Power will be the absolute best ground attacker in the game.
How does it perform in PvP? In the Pokémon GO battle league, Garchomp is particularly useful in the Master League. As of now, Earth Power will bring some new victories compared to Earthquake in the classic Master League (up to level 40) – but this depends somewhat on the shield situation. Overall, Earth Power will be faster to use, but Earthquake has a higher base damage.
Overall, Earth Power is primarily an upgrade in the PvE area. Garchomp will become even stronger against gyms and raids; PvP is not the main focus during the upcoming Community Day – which was the opposite in many of the last Community Days.
One thing is for sure: You should definitely secure a strong Garchomp with Earth Power during the Community Day to get one of the best ground attackers in the game. Especially since Kaumalat has been extremely rare in the past, this event should be the perfect opportunity.
Additionally, you can secure a Shiny Kaumalat during the Community Day if you search long enough. Speaking of Shinies: Thanks to the completed Rocket Challenge, a brand new Shiny is coming to the game.
