On September 8, 2021, the Psychic Spectacular will start in Pokémon GO. You will have the chance to meet the new Pokémon Iscalar and Calamanero. We have looked at what kind of monsters they are and will tell you how strong they will be.
What is the Psychic Spectacular? It is an event that takes place in celebration of the current Season of Mischief. During the Psychic Spectacular, you can encounter Psychic Pokémon in the wild and in raids.
Additionally, you will then gain access to the next part of the Special Research “Misunderstood Mischief” with Hoopa. Furthermore, Niantic has officially announced a release for the two monsters Iscalar and Calamanero.
When does the event take place? The Psychic Spectacular starts on September 8 at 10:00 AM and ends on September 13 at 8:00 PM local time.
Iscalar and Calamanero – How strong will they be
Iscalar: The Pokémon Iscalar is a monster of the Dark and Psychic type. It comes from Generation 6 and can evolve into Calamanero. Due to its types, it is particularly weak against Bug and Fairy type attacks.
You can recognize Iscalar by its jellyfish-shaped, blue body. It also has large black eyes and a red hat covered by a transparent hood.
According to Gamepress, Iscalar’s stats are rather poor (via gamepress.gg). It cannot really convince in either attack or defense. Therefore, it is rather unsuitable for use in raids and cannot impress in the PvP league either.
Calamanero: The evolution of Iscalar also comes from Generation 6 and is of the Dark and Psychic type. To evolve it, besides the 50 required candies, there should be a special feature. According to initial hints from Niantic’s post, the community suspects that, similar to the games on the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch, the phone needs to be turned upside down (via nianticlabs.com).
Outwardly, the head of this monster resembles that of a bird. Especially the red beak stands out here. The rest of the body is generally dark, as seen in the image. However, the long arms, which again resemble a jellyfish, are also remarkable.
Calamanero is also weak against Bug and Fairy type attacks due to its type. According to Gamepress, its stats are somewhat better than those of Iscalar, but still cannot impress for PvP league and raid battles (via gamepress.gg). Both its attack and defense are just average, which is why there are better attackers. Only in its endurance can it score a bit.
Is Iscalar and Calamanero worth it? The two monsters are newly introduced in Pokémon GO, so you should definitely secure them for your Pokédex. For use in raids and the PvP league, you should rely on better candidates.
